Our week in Atlantic Beach, NC

An August 2004 trip to Atlantic Beach by laddie2d

WOW! What a wonderful place! Peppertree Atlantic Beach, NC. Unit 8C3, 32 steps up but a home away from home nonetheless!

We went to Jungleland twice and played miniature golf. They have 2 separate 18 hole courses and they are both fun. Our resort had a scheduled day trip to Jungleland and most of the families went so we stayed at the resort then and had our pool all to ourselves.

Quick Tips:

Bring bug spray and sun tan lotion! Ask the locals for suggestions on best places to eat. You have to look for places that serve "healthy" alternatives in food. We eat Eggbeaters instead of eggs and when we asked the waitress at the 4 Corners Diner if they had egg substitutes her reply was "You're at the beach, Honey!" Most places say they don't even have eggwhite omelettes. Figure that out! If you got an egg, you got an eggwhite!

Best Way To Get Around:

Driving is the easiest. While hubby was fishing (he took the car) my sister and I walked down the street to a Chinese restaurant, across the street from the Food Lion, and then shopped in a gift store. We could have walked many places but the beautiful pool at the resort called to us.
Best Things Nearby:
Amos Mosquito Restaurant, Jungleland miniature golf courses, Golden Corral Buffet. The beach is a 10 minute walk away. Food Lion within walking distance. 4 show movie theater 3 blocks away. Fishing right off the beach or many charter boats close to the resort. Fly fishing guide is about 45 minute drive.

Best Things About the Resort:
Clean, well maintained, and spacious! Going to the beach is easy. Rent chairs and an umbrella at the end of the pathway rather than lugging your own stuff. Coming back is more of a challenge because you are walking uphill through the sand and this is not easy for some with bad knees. Ask my hubby, ha ha! Or stay at the pools. We did this most days.

Resort Experience:
We had a 3 bedroom unit. Our 15 year old in one room with his own TV and queen size bed. My sister in her own room with TV and twin beds. Me and hubby in master bedroom (after all we own the timeshare!) with TV and queen bed and jacuzzi in our own bathroom. Our big closet was also in the bathroom which seemed strange but it didn't prove an inconvenience at all. Full kitchen with large dining table and 4 chairs. There is also another table by the door on the livingroom side for 4 more diners. Since the unit has the max capacity of 8 there has to be room for them all to eat.

We cooked in on 2 nights and just relaxed. We had a table on the balcony, not a private balcony but only traffic is the other residents on your floor, and they have a table and chairs also, so we sat outside and had coffee in the morning and after dinner. Our balcony overlooked the pool and we did alot of "people watching".

Check-in process took about 10 minutes and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. We really enjoyed this vacation and this resort. We would go back in a minute.
