Weekend in Davis

An August 2004 trip to Davis by BlueJay21

Quote: Another nice college town with fun local shops and plenty of budget-friendly eat out places.

Weekend in Davis

Although this trip with business oriented, I found many down time to explore downtown Davis and meet some of the college locals. These shops range from antiques to modern grocery outlets (for vegans).

UC Davis is a nice campus with unique lankmark (such as the DNA strand statue in the science buildings).

Quick Tips:

Be sure to check out www.davis411.com before dinning out or exploring the city. It's best to check out 1-2 place throughly than to drive around mindlessly.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is must. Downtown is walkable but small.

I was introduced to this restaurant by a close relative of mine. The meal started out with "eggplant soup" serve with mince beef, and we order 3-4 dishes among the four of us. Many of of the dishes were prepare adequately with careful attention to amount of spices, salt, and pepper.

One of the best dishes was the "Cashew Chicken" a basic bite size fried chickens serve with lightly ginger/pepper a true delight! Also had salt and pepper shrimp, (it came with the head) was very crispy. A good place to eat without breaking the bank.

Avoid coming around summer time. This place gets as hot as Vegas (100+) and pretty close to Death valley temperature. Bring plenty of tank top and shorts, sun screen. Park in the shade when ever possible.

Also, if you are planning on traveling from or around Bay Area for a weekend trip try to check traffic condition before departing (main highway 80 is a driver's nightmare at times).
