So...Heavenly!

So...Heavenly!

Overview

Most people probably enjoy Tahoe for its skiing in the winter months, but summertime can be just as fun. I would say a highlight of our trip was taking a ski boat out on the lake. We prefer it over the ferries for an independent view of what we want to see.Quick Tips: Check around for the best price. We got our best deal at Tahoe Keys Boat Rental. It was .00 plus gasoline. Be very careful to make sure you watch for landmarks leaving the dock, because we didn't and got lost going back. Also, stay in the dark blue water, because if you end up in the lighter blue water, you can get stuck in sand. It remains shallow for quite a distance from the beach.Best Way To Get Around:...Read More

Zephyr Cove

Attraction

My family likes heading to the Nevada side of the lake to spend the day on their beaches. There seem to be more beaches, more activities, and they also appear cleaner than the south shore (where most visitors stay). Zephyr Cove is also popular with the younger folk with larger crowds in the summer. So... if isolation is more your idea of a good time, then head to one of many other beaches along the Nevada side.

Ponderosa Ranch

Attraction

The Ponderosa Ranch has a ranch-style breakfast for those who want to get up early and ride a hay wagon up the side of hill. It runs from 8:00-10:00 A.M. Reservations are not needed. At the top, people line up to receive pancakes, eggs, and sausages just like they probably did when filming Bonanza. Yes...it is the site where the film crew and probably the actors ate during breaks. The western-style amusement park is included in the price of breakfast, or one can pay for it separately. My advice is to take the breakfast because there isn't that much to the park. There are a few things for young children, places to eat, shop and a couple of shows. For Bonanza fans check out the Ponde...Read More

Families travelling with children, especially young ones, will love this attraction. There are three 18-19 hole courses to keep everyone entertained The three theme areas - Storybook, Castle, and Dinosaur are very appealing to children. We were able to go back two times to play two of the courses...lots of fun!! It is open in the evening too, until 9:00 or so.

I would recommend Virginia City for people who have never been there mostly for its cultural significance. Plan to spend the day if leaving from Lake Tahoe. The main street looks like it was pulled out of the old west. There are lots of shops to explore, saloons, some adequate dining, olde time portrait studios, and a mine ride. There is also a train ride on a steam engine. Keep in mind that it is a tourist attraction.
