Quote: "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco" - Mark Twain was right when he said this! Brrrr...was it cold! Granted, there were some points during the day when it was sunny and very warm, but typically the days and nights were quite chilly...

Quick Tips:

Mark Twain was right when he said, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco" - PACK your jeans, sweaters and jackets!!!! Sept./Oct. is the best time of year to go.

At Powell and Market Streets, buy a 3-day (or however long you'll be staying) MUNI card (allows you to ride the cable cars, subways, streetcars and buses as much as you want).

Rent a car and drive over the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin headlands and take in the phenomenal views! Drive to Muir Woods to see the gigantic redwoods. On your way back, stop in Sausalito. Drive to Treasure Island off the Bay Bridge.

If you want to visit Alcatraz - book way in advance!!!!!

Sea lions migrate in the summer, so if you want to see them -go in the fall.

Take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) from Market Street to many charming towns, such as Walnut Creek.

Best Way To Get Around:

On foot! San Francisco is easy to get around - everything is relatively close. Take the cable car as close as you can get to your destination and then walk from there. Be prepared to climb some steep hills!!!

Taxis are abundant too.

Quote: The hotel itself is beautiful and has every amenity you can imagine. Very busy - tons of people always hanging around and walking throough. Great location right in Union Square and the cable car stops right outside. One block to the BART and Market Street buses and streetcars.

Quote: I loved this place! VERY affordable, quaint and charming. A delicious breakfast was included and was served in the restaurant, which is just so charming! They have an elevator - so don't worry about having to lug your luggage up 4 flights of stairs! Each floor is dedicated to a different famous painter. Very comfortable/homey - AND in the BEST location! The cable car stops on the corner and taxis are abundant on the street.

Quote: All things Czech at Cafe Prague, hence the name! Maybe I loved it because I am Czech, maybe I loved it because the people were so nice, but nothing matters except that I loved this place!!! Loved it loved it loved it. Now when I am craving Svickova (a Czech dish) all I have to do is fly 5 hours west rather than 8 hours east, hmmm not bad. And not only do they have Svickova, but Goulash and dumplings and fruit kolac. Ok, my mouth is watering. I suppose some of you are saying, "yuck, all I want is a hamburger," well they have those too. As well as sandwiches, wraps and salads. It's ALL there. Really it's lik an upscale diner WITH atmosphere. Pictures and paintings of Prague sights too for those of us whose heart yearn to revisit, or visit for the first time, Prague. Bonus - the owners are Czech...and so is the cook!
