We went to Maui for our friend's wedding and made a vacation out of it.

Overview

Must snorkel on the north side of the island at the reserve area. It is beautiful, and there is no cost!!! There are plenty of places to rent snorkel gear for very reasonable prices.

If you can, try a surfing class. We had so much fun, and it was easier than we thought it would be. A lot of it depends on the waves though, so you probably want to take a morning class.

The Road to Hana is a must see!! Pack snacks as well. I think adults would enjoy it more than kids. It is an all day trip, and not many places to buy snack or food. We did drive all the way around the island, even though many people will tell you not to. The road past the Pools of Oheo are unpaved, and are wide enough for one car. The locals know the roads very well, and alot of them drove pretty fast for conditions. The sight on the south side of the island is awesome. From Hana, the road is at sea level, and on the south side you end up at almost cloud level. Words can't describe it. You must see for yourself.

Quick Tips:

Plan your activities for the early part of your stay, that way you get some time to relax before going home. Check out the Old Lahaina Luau too, it was great!

Best Way To Get Around:

Get a rental car!

Best Things Nearby:
There are wonderful snorkeling spots all around with public access. You must snorkel in the reserve area on the north side. We got to swim close to a sea turtle! There were also silver fish that would swim up to you. We are guessing that people feed them, and they are not scared of humans. Go snorkeling before the late afternoon when the tide comes in, otherwise you won't enjoy yourself. There are also reasonably priced shops all around to rent snorkel gear from.

Don't eat at the pizza place in the shopping center across from the resort. It was horrible!

Best Things About the Resort:
The room we had was outdated. There are people who actually live at the resort. Cleaning service was everyday, and the desk people were very helpful. You may want to take your own beach towels. If you lose one of the resort beach towels, you will be charged $20 per towel!

Resort Experience:
The resort is very nice! Location is a little ways from main attraction areas, but it is close enough to drive. You can't swim in the ocean even though the resort is on the beach. They have 2 pools and 2 spas, so that was nice to get in around the sunset. The units also have washer/dryer and kitchens so you can save money by grocery shopping for food. Not many great places to eat nearby except for Roy's.

Mama's Fish HouseBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This was one of the best dinners we have ever had!!! The restaurant is set right on the beach, and has a beautiful ocean view. If you're not staying at their hotel, they do offer valet parking. The atmosphere is relaxed and classy, but casual at the same time. The staff were always available to assist us with any requests we had. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, but we were told that it is always best to make a reservation.

While we waited in the bar area, we looked at all of the pictures of the famous celebrities that have dined at Mama's Fish House, and that was fun. We ordered some cocktails while we waited, and there were so many fun drinks to choose from. The drinks definitely had enough alcohol in them, not that we're complaining, but one was enough for each of us to relax just enough.

For dinner I ordered the steak, and it literally melted in my mouth! My wife had the butterfly shrimp scampi, and she said it was the best ever! Overall the portions were a little small, but we savored every bite.

For dessert we shared their special, which was a dessert that looked like an oyster. The "shell" was actually a waffle cone; but to create some definition to give the oyster shell a visual effect, chocolate lines were drizzled to give it an effect of a shell. Inside the oyster shell was a serving of choclate mousse covered with dark chocolate. It was such a work art that we didn't want to eat it, but we couldn't resist. It was the best dessert we've ever had.

Overall, our entire experience was a class act. This was the last place we visited before our departure to home, and what a way to end our trip!!

Snorkeling in Molokini CraterBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Snorkeling"

Book online for the internet discount! They did a great job overall. They had a continental breakfast and bbq lunch for us. Unfortunately due to the tradewinds, we never made it to Molokini. We were disappointed, but it wasn't the company's fault. They did take us to some other spots for snorkeling, and we still had a good time. This company is very popular, so you will definitely want to book before you go!

Attraction | "Pools at Oheo"

The sight of and around the pools is spectacular. We went on a rainy day, so we weren't able to swim in the pools. The view was beautiful anyhow. The surrounding area was lush green with some moisture in the air, and it felt very tropical. We highly recommend going! We were charged a park fee, so be sure to take some cash with you. Pack snacks or a lunch because there are plenty of areas to make have a picnic. The staff was very friendly as well. We recommend leaving in the early morning, probably before 9:00am. A lot of local people recommended we leave at 6:00am, but there really isn't that big of a rush. Take your camera too. There are plenty of great spots for some beautiful pictures waiting to be taken as well.

This was a nice morning trip for us. The park was pretty, and wasn't busy at all. It took us 20 minutes to walk around it all.

Lahaina CenterBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Shopping in Lahaina"

There are so many places to shop. Check out David & Goliath's!!! After walking through Lahaina a few times, everything starts to look the same. The ABC stores are the way to go!! The jewelry was overpriced in all the shops we went into. While we had fun looking, we didn't see anything we couldn't live without or couldn't get back home.
