Powhatan Plantation - Still Love It!

A June 2004 trip to Williamsburg by lmbtravel

This is our 5th visit to this resort over the past 12 years. The overall resort experience has always been incredibly pleasurable for our family (we have 2 kids aged 7 and 9).

Best Things About the Resort:
The property is large but surrounded by trees, so that you feel like you are in your own little village. The outdoor pools are beautiful, and the tree-lined streets are very relaxing.

Resort Experience:
The resort covers a large area that is surrounded by a forest. I would take daily morning walks, and it takes a full hour to walk briskly through all of the resort! Can't beat that for safe walking or jogging on the resort property. The resort has an entrance gate with a security guard, which prevents unwanted visitors from entering.

Check-in was a breeze (we even got to stay in the same unit for the full two weeks). The 2-bedroom units are spacious, and the lower units have full size hot tubs right in the unit (in a separate room right off the patio). Upgrades to the older units are ongoing, however the minor maintenance issues that we had were promptly addressed (i.e. within an hour).

The indoor pool is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment, and will be wonderful once it is completed (we heard that it is scheduled to be finished in the fall).

Our stays have always been enjoyable because once you're on site you don't feel like you have to leave in order to relax or enjoy yourself.

Attraction

This is the only water park that we've been to (this was our third visit) that is set right into the trees. All of the rides/attractions are separated by naturally treed areas, so you don't feel like you are in a huge multi-ride amusement park (even though there are plenty of different activities to choose from). There are a couple of pool activity areas for small children, one of which is called H2O, which our children enjoyed immensely.

This year they opened up a great new ride called Hubba Hubba Highway, where you float in a 3 foot deep "river" which pushes you gently along while you listen to Beach Boys music. After several times around the long and winding "highway", you feel like you've been in a whirlpool or hot tub, due to the jets along the side of the river which push the water along. This was a surprisingly relaxing activity even for someone who is not into water park rides.

There is a also a wave pool, as well as numerous more traditional water park slides.

Always a family favourite!
