A July 2002 trip to Biarritz by Jglassb311

Sunset in BiarritzMore Photos

Biarritz is a sleepy French surf town that is featured in the Endless Summer. My surferboy, Ben, made that a must-see on our trek through Europe. I am glad he did, because the beaches, the people and the ambiance made it well worth the trip.

Restaurant

The OK Corral was a welcome surprise after a month of "traditional" foods on the trek through England, Ireland and parts of France. It is a large Tex-Mex style restaurant specializing in steaks and Mexican food. The margaritas were big and frothy, and the chips and salsa were very American-esque. I ordered fajitas, and Ben ordered a steak. Both were delicious, well seasoned and ready within about 10 minutes. They speak English if you don't speak French, and the price is always right!

Sunset in Biarritz
The expansive beaches that lie at the water’s edge in Biarritz are a beachcomber's dream. The golden sand is soft, the sun gets very hot, and the people are all beautiful. Great for long walks, the beaches stretch out for a few miles. There is usually not too much swell for surfing in the summer months, but don't be surprised if you see some people out there trying. Biarritz is best known to Americans as a town featured in the epic surf movie "The Endless Summer." The water isn't especially warm, but it is refreshing, and relaxing. If you like France and the beach, grab your hat, a good book, and make it down to Biarritz.
