There are so many different tours of this region, some quite expensive, others very reasonable. Since it appeared to be a beautiful day when we visited, we splurged and bought the longest tour to the Jungfraujoch- the Top of Europe. Cost with discount was USD pp. However, we had a big surprise waiting for us there. Quick Tips: If you are traveling on a Eurail pass be sure to ASK for a 25% discount when purchasing many of the tour tickets to the Jungfrau. Make sure you have plenty of film. There is a gift shop at the top, but you won’t like the prices. One of the best bargains in the souvenir shop was a large poster of the Jungfraujoch packaged for traveling, excellent for framing, ...Read More

Our tour took us from Interlaken through Zweilutschinen, Lauterbrunnen, Klein Scheidegg and then finally to the "Top of Europe". Time to the top was approximately 3 hours. This was accomplished on four different trains, including the last portion that was actually a tunnel through the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau. The cog-wheel train stopped mid-way in tunnel and gave the passengers 5 minutes take pictures of the outside through Plexiglas viewing windows. The unspoiled snow was a beautiful site. The most incredible fact we heard was that this tunnel was built in the 1800s. It is also known as the "highest railroad station" in Europe. When we got off the train at the top, we had se...Read More

On the way down from the Jungfraujoch, the train stopped at Grindelwald, and we decided to spend a few hours there and catch the next train back to Interlaken.

This area is best known for the wonderful skiing and beautiful vacation homes. Just beyond the train station, was the main street with shops on each side, just for the tourists. We found a small grill, purchased some wonderful bratwurst, bread, and a drink, found an empty bench at a nearby park view a terrific view of the Big Three-Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau and had a wonderful end to an exciting day.

Inside the Jungfrau at the Top of Europe, we found the Ice Palace. This area was carved out of part of the glacier ice and is designed with walkways, ceilings, rooms, and displays, all made of ice. I was surprised that it was easy to walk on the ice, it was not slippery. Each “room” has a different theme with ice sculptures that included an igloo, penguins, bears, archways and even a bar. Any YES, it was a little cold, but it was well worth the time spent in the ICE WONDERLAND.
