Best Things About the Resort:
The best thing about the resort is that everything is conveniently located on site.
Resort Experience:
The resort itself is very picturesque and situated on a lovely beach front location. All the amenities that one needs on a vacation are located on site, which makes it very convenient.
The resort is very nice and the staff are extremely courteous and friendly. The rooms were exceptionally clean.
The resort mentions in its literature that it is a 20 minute walk to town -- this may be true, but it is a very long, hot 20 minute walk (in August, anyway). The resort is isolated away from the other resorts, and for those who are not good walkers, a taxi into town costs $7 each way. Also, the taxi drivers claim not to have change, so exact change is VERY IMPORTANT.
The biggest problem with the resort is the shortage of umbrellas and lounge chairs around the pool areas. On the first day, I didn't make it to the pool until 12 noon, and could not find a single, available lounge chair. Every day, I had to get up early (by 7AM) just to secure a lounge chair and umbrella. This was a very frustrating experience for all guests -- not to have the desired umbrella or lounge chair.
The units are fairly typical timeshare units with furniture that looks nice (especially in pictures) but is basically uncomfortable. Our unit (an exchange) was on the 2nd floor, and overlooked the pool. I would have preferred a unit on a higher floor with a view of the Sea. The mattresses were EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I actually ended up sleeping on the dilapidated pull out sofa which was more comfortable than the king sized bed.
The Sea of Cortez is not suitable for swimming, and in fact, in August, red flags were out the entire time. Perhaps at other times of the year, one can swim in the Sea, but not during our stay. The undertow was extremely rough and the waves break very close to shore at around 4-5 feet. Very scary, even for the best of swimmers.
The other problem with the beach, is that the sand is not packed down, which means that even the shortest of walks is an aerobic workout. If you could make the 10 minute walk down the beach a bit, the Sea was a little less rough, but the walk just about wore us out.
Again, the best qualities about the resort are the staff (very friendly and helpful) and the amenities. Everything you need is on the grounds -- excursions, deli, restaurants, market place. The housekeepers keep the rooms exceptionally clean and are very gracious and helpful. We had two maintenance problems during our stay, but they were resolved very quickly. All the staff at the Front Desk were helpful and friendly.
