This was our first trip to the Mayan Riviera. We found an amazing variety of things to do. This journal describes some fun activities.

Cave snorkeling is a unique Mayan Riviera experience. The ‘Alltournative’ tour people did a great job.
Soliman Bay is a fantastic empty beach area. Search for Oscar y Lalos’ restaurant on your favorite engine.
Live music in Playa del Carmen is varied and fun! Have a Kahlua Colada at Cafe Luna. This drink is amazing!
Coba ruins are uncrowned and interesting. Take a tour even if you don't usually take tours. We normally don't either.

Quick Tips:

Playa Del Carmen has discount coupons. We bought a timeshare at the five-star Mayan Palace resort just north of town. We now rent our time out as well as others for a fraction of the rack rate. Fun Sun Mexico: it's great as a base camp.

Best Way To Get Around:

You really need to rent a car unless you want to lay in a resort and hang on the the beach.

This was everything you would expect from a luxury resort. The pool is enormous and nicely done. The breakfast buffet is very well done. Avoid the timeshare tour. Don't buy, rent from us. We were foolish. www.funsunmexico.com

This is a good spot for some creative food. Prices are certainly not cheap. As mentioned earlier, it is worth going just for the kahlua colada.

Attraction

This is a bit Disney-like. If you won't do the adventuresome Alternative Cave snorkel tour (which we highly recommend), they have tubing down an underground river that is fun. Swimming with the dolphins is extra money but it is a blast. The park itself isn't really worth the money, but it is a fun place.

The Mexican music show at night is really well done, but I'll warn you it goes on forever (2 hours +) and we would have felt rude walking out.

The Mayan ball game show was REALLY well done. Maybe this place was worth the money.
