Six months in Key West

Overview

Quote:
Duval Street is famous for drinking and eating - spend some time there but don't miss out on the rest of the town!!Quick Tips: Go to get stone claw crabs or mahi-mahi (dolphin fish) at the Half Shell Raw Bar after stopping at one of the Visitor Centers to get coupons for free drinks. DEFINATELY eat at Blue Heaven. It is AMAZING!!! Wait is sometimes long (up to hour and a half) but is totally worth it. Take a boat ride at sunset - can set up at visitor center or at marina by Half Shell. Scuba trips are fun also, you go on two dives and can rent all equiptment. Golf at the Key West Golf Club on Stock Island. Visit the Marina right behind the course - it's the newer one and is beautiful. Go to w...Read More

Casa Marina, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Beautiful Hotel Ocean-front (one of the few in KW) that has it's own water sports company. Two pools and a jacuzzi in the back with bar and pool-side waiters. Rooms are well decorated and restaraunt has wonderful food but is pricey. The brunch is good but not worth the money. Spectatular service and a fabulous view make this hotel my favorite in KW. Within walking distance from the Southernmost point of Duval.

Rooms were small and not very clean with dim lighting. Stayed for Spring Break during college - that's where the party is so if you are looking for a cool place during your Spring Break - it's great. If you are looking for a nice place to stay during your vacation - keep looking. My room was between the stairwell and the cleaning service room and our window opened up to a brick wall. Cleaning people would come into the room in the morning and clean around us. Unbelievable. I would never stay there again. Has two large pools and no restaraunt.

Prince is (50-75) cheaper if you go through a Visitor Center (20% 0ff at least). Wonderful b&b in the middle of it all. Within walking distance of the marinas, famous Duval bers like Sloppy Joe's, Irish Kevin's, The Bull, ect. Serves breakfast and sometimes has an afternoon cocktail party. Great gardens in the back yard. Very relaxing and yet in the middle of all of the action.

THE BEST FOOD ANYWHERE!!
What a wonderful place. I mived to Key West after eating here over break and not being able to forget this place. It is spectactular!! A rope swing for the kids and cats on the roof give the feeling of being in the carribean - outside dining with a musician singing Buffett and other island tunes helps in creating an intimate and romantic dining experience. The food is the best in Key West and is well worth the wait. Start with the shrimp appitizer - served with corn and cornbread. Perfect. Scallops are amazing, fish is very fresh and the tuna is delicious! Enjoy!!

PT's Late Night Bar & Grill

Restaurant | "PT's"

Local favorite, the bar is small but the restaraunt large. Play pool or watch the game in comfort. Mahi-mahi sandwitch is the best - the crabcake is excellent also. Beer is served and kept cold - pitchers are served with a bag of ice to keep in the pitcher. A good place to go with buddies to just hang out and get a bite.

Sunny Days

Best Of IgoUgo

Attraction

Quote:
Board boat around 7 a.m. and have breakfast on-board. About an hour and a half later you will find yourself on the most beautiful island, 90 miles away from KW. The Dry Tortugas make up Fort Jefferson National Park. Once used as a jail and to guard the waterways during times of war, this island is now used for tours and snorkeling. See sea turtles, eels, sunfish, nurse shark, and numerous other fish and wildlife. Absoultly amazing. The reef has built up against the wall of the fort moat and is eye level when snorkeling. You will have lunch on the Fort and then ride back to Key West while munching on snacks provided by Sunny. Sunny Days also has sunset tours on both the Catamaran and sailboat...Read More

Speedboat Races

Attraction

Quote:
Fast paced and wild, these boats come into town for about a week and race for days - the Championships being the best. Hundreds of boats go out to watch the races and usually cost about $50 for an all day trip. On ESPN, the Speedboat races are exciting and something not to be missed. ****OCCURING WEEK OF JANUARY 14, 2001******

Fantasy Fest

Attraction

Quote:
Week before Halloween - any adult's craziest week of the year. Different activities all week (toga parties, drag shows, home-made bikini contests) all lead up to a parade (show skin to get beads - think Mardi Gras) and lots of drinking. Expect to be with 40,000 other people at least. All of the bars are packed and everyone is in great spirits. All boats and tours (Ghost Tours is a good one) are also running so if you need to get away from the party scene for a bit you can). Having no open-container law makes this a huge party in the streets. The parade is pure fantasy and is spectactular. You have to go at least once to experience this. Hotels book up a year in advance so make plans fast!!

Key West Resort Golf Course

Attraction | "Key West Golf Club"

Quote:
Playing among the chickens, palms and locals at a public course makes for a great day in the Keys. Start your day off early to avoid the mid-afternoon heat. Hole 7 features mangroves that you have to hit over - I lost at least three balls on this hole. :) Condos that surround the course are available for rent through owners as well as rental agencies in Key West. Nice to live in (I lived there for over 6 months), the Key West Golf Club is a gated community with two pools, putting green, psudo range and 18 hole course.
