From Ft. Lauderdale to Key West

A July 2004 trip to Weston by ChardPNG

Wes stayed in the Vacation Village at Weston. This is a very nice resort with a beautiful pool. My children loved the pool with its waterfall, the game room, and the free video rental.

Golf courses, Weston Town Center, Sawgrass Mills Mall, tennis

Best Things About the Resort:
The pool. It is a good base to explore the Seminole Indian reservation, Ft. Lauderdale, and is not too far from Miami.

Resort Experience:
This is a very nice resort - the rooms are comfortable and seem to be virtually soundproof. The pool is wonderful. It is about 225 feet long and has a waterfall...very relaxing. My children loved the free video rental, the game room, and of course the pool. There is also an exercise room and free internet access. There are a lot of restaurants and shopping within a few miles of the resort. The staff was very helpful and nice. We went to Key West (about 31/2 hours away), the Seminole Indian Reservation (about 45 minutes away), the River Walk, and Las Olas Blvd. (about 20 minutes away). We took the water bus from the River Walk to the beach. The water bus is a $5 all day pass. It takes you along the river and tells you about the famous houses along the way as a "bonus".

The menu is huge...all types of food. We ordered five different meals and each was delicious. The cheesecake (35 varieties) was fabulous. The service was excellent.

Billie Swamp SafariBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

There is no admission to get in, but there are rides and shows that do charge a fee. There are swamp buggy rides ($20 adult, $12 child - for a one hour tour) that take you through the swamp and point out alligators, birds, and other swamp creatures as well as different types of vegetation. There are airboat tours ($12 for a 20 minute tour), which is a fun tour for children. We really liked the nature walk on a boardwalk through the swamp. We saw several alligators, frogs, birds, etc. in their unspoiled environment. There are displays of Seminole Indian life with their "chickee" huts, etc. For the adventurous, you can rent a Seminole chickee hut ($35 for two people or a larger dorm which holds 8 to 15 people for $65 a night). There are restroom and showers nearby. They also have a small display of animals - Florida panther, bear, deer, etc. that the children loved. There is a restaurant that serves American food as well as a few Seminole dishes (which were very good).
