Truly Paradise

A March 2004 trip to Paradise Island by beachlovr0

What a better way to spend a vacation than on a beautiful small island that has perfect blue-green water, palm trees, great weather and delicious food! Enjoy the Atlantis amenities from another hotel, and learn about the opportunities for everyone to enjoy the beautiful country of the Bahamas.

Anthony's Caribbean GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Anthony's Caribbean Bar & Grill"

We have visited Anthony's on several different trips to the Bahamas, and while the prices have gone up, the food and service seem to have stayed the same. The restaurant is convenient to Atlantis, and the bright-colored decor and napkins make for a nice Caribbean setting. The menu includes regular burgers and sandwiches, but also some Caribbean entrées (chicken with a fruit/mango sauce, for example), and there is a kid's menu. The food is really good, but you'll find better deals out by the fish market and in downtown Nassau. If you don't mind paying more, this is a nice place to go, especially because they often have bands playing nice background music.

Straw MarketsBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Straw Market and Downtown"

A day away from the beach and beautiful water of the Bahamas does not sound too exciting, but you will certainly appreciate the lost time in the sun once you have visited the straw market. While not the most glamorous place on the island, this was certainly one of the most fun stops. Only a short taxi ride from Paradise Island, the market has not only the island charm, with straw bags, hats, and other "islandy" souvenirs, but also a taste of city life through knockoff bags, luggage, and other items. The prices here are usually negotiable and easily beat prices at the stores in the area, not to mention that it gives the opportunity to meet with the locals and see a different part of the city.

Banana BoatsBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Banana boats at the beach"

We were hanging on for dear life with the wind in our faces and water splashing around, riding a huge "banana boat" pulled behind a powerboat. The kids in the group didn't find it quite as scary as the adults, but it certainly was an extremely fun experience for the whole family. While we didn't plan on doing this, the many people offering the rides on the beach were a huge temptation, and we eventually decided to take the plunge. The ride was surprisingly long, and the drivers were careful to make sure that everyone stayed securely on the boat without flying off the air-inflated, large banana. If you have a bad back or other similar problems, I don't suggest this, as it throws you around quite a bit - otherwise, enjoy the ride!
