New Orleans is located at the southern tip of the State of Louisiana, at the mouth of the Mississippi River. This Queen of the South has, since its creation, has been mixing elegance and decadence. Culturally, it's one of the richest cities in the United States and had a tumultuous history: built by the French, administered for 25 years by the Spanish, and returned to the French before being bought from Napoleon as a part of the Lousiana purchase.Quick Tips: New Orleans is a city best enjoyed by walking (in the French Quarter, in the Garden District, on the banks of the Mississippi)... Try and avoid the hot summer month. This is the Southeast, folks. It's hot, humid and muggy. October and nov...Read More

Cafe Du Monde Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

One of the specialty and an experience you don’t want to miss is seating in the morning at the terrace of Café du Monde, just off Jackson Square and order beignets and café au lait. Beignets are like donuts but crispier and tastier, sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar and café au lait is a mix of coffee, chickory, and milk. It’s cheap, delicious and you are in one of the prettiest area in town. It’s better to go in the morning for tourists are numerous and in the afternoon, the place is really hectic. Oh yeah… Café du Monde is also known for not taking credit cards so don’t forget your cash.

One of the most charming (but also wildest) area in the U.S. is located in the heart of New Orleans: the "French Quarter" also known in French as le Vieux Carre . The old square (as in square-shaped), a rectangular area neighbourhood that has Bourbon Street as a main axis. This landmark of New Orleans has architecture you’ll find nowhere else in the country with its little house decorated with iron balconies, patios, and hidden courtyards. It should really be called the "Spanish Quarter" because the city was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1788 and 1794 when it was under Spanish rule. The Governor, Don Francisco Luis Hector, had it rebuilt in Spanish style and most of the buildings...Read More

My favourite bar in New Orleans! At the corner of Royal street and St. Peter Street. You get in through a huge door and walk through the bar (dark and all made of brick) before reaching the courtyard and its magical with its nice fountain and lights hanging from the trees. It’s usually very busy but you probably won’t have to wait too long before finding a table and order a nice little cocktail. This bar has probably the most colorful array of cocktails I have ever seen and you can go back with your hurricane glass as a souvenir! Just don't forget to ask for your deposit back when you pay.
