Woodland...north of Sacramento and back in time

A December 1999 trip to Woodland by Travel Queen

Woodland is an "ag" town that has a main street reminiscent of the old days. It's just the right size to get around town in 10 minutes no matter where you're going.

The Woodland Opera House is quite nice. It's in a historic building on the main street. Every August there's a Hot August Nights celebration in downtown Woodland.

Quick Tips:

It's a place that you'll run into your friends if you're out and about. It's simple yet has a lot of the convenient stores and some good restaurants.

Best Way To Get Around:

You most likely need a car. Although there is a city bus.

Restaurant

Morrison's is a nice place to eat. The atmosphere is dark and romantic and the food is delicious. It's on the 3rd floor of a historic building in downtown Woodland. They have this melt in your mouth homemade wheat bread. There's a full bar. They have great selections of food including steaks, seafood, pasta. I've had the jumbo prawns there and really enjoyed them. My husband liked their prime rib. Also, last time I checked they were in the Entertainment Book (1/2 off dinner). It's a great place with delicious food, really nice employees and a romantic atmosphere.

The Daily Grind is a great little coffee shop. It's a hoppin place during the week and on Saturdays. They have great coffee and coffee drinks. They have delicious muffins, and other baked goods. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is fun. I want one in my town.

The Yolo County Fair in Woodland is very fun. It's a full bore county fair with the livestock and jam contests and quilts and crafts. It's full of tradition with the carnival rides and has great corn dogs. My sister is a Woodland transplant from Sacramento. She married a Woodland boy and never wants to live in Sacramento again. She's also a corn dog addict and claims nobody makes them like the Yolo County Fair.
Here's another place that I appreciate. The mall has everything you need but it's not huge. It has JC Penny's, Mervyn's and Gottschalks all together as well as several small stores. Woodland also has a Walmart.
