South Beach and Miami Beach is not Miami. The city of Miami has a great deal more to offer than topless South Beach and Ocean Drive. Not to take any credit away from those hot spots, mainland Florida has lots of places to see.

Quick Tips:

Try looking at the following publications for what's going on locally: Street and New Times. Both are free and come out every Thursday.

Best Way To Get Around:

RENTAL CAR, unless you have a buddy with a car. Public transport is in its infancy yet you can manage to get to the bare places by metro and bus.

Restaurant

This is one of the best South Florida Mexican restaurants. Try the "Recetas de Abuela" or Granny's Recipes. Expect mariachis at night. The location is just south of the gas station on the east side of Biscayne Blvd. on 163rd Street.

Take out is available, but with the Mexican decor and good music going on, why would you not want to be here?

Arch Creek Bridge
Arch Creek Park is just one of those places that tends to get overlooked. Not a great idea, as we did so for two years before stopping in to see what the park was all about. It is a nice place to disconnect from the craziness of Miami.

The kids can try horseback riding and there are some swings in the playground area. Overall it's a nice park to relax.
