We were welcomed with open arms to The Royal Reserve, it was very clean and has excellent facilities. The Chef produces superb food from authentic African food to European styles. The staff were all amazing and very helpful, in our opinion THE place to go in Mombasa.

Royal Reserve
We visited the Royal Reserve late in January 2004 for our wedding and honeymoon. The staff was amazing, they are so helpful, and yes, they will climb a coconut tree for you!! Nothing was too much trouble for them and this treatment extended to all of the guests.

The apartments are HUGE and very well equiped. We had fresh flowers laid on our bed most days and baskets of fruit left in our apartment.

The pool bar is a joy when you are hot and in need of refreshment. The evenings can be spent around the pool area enjoying your meal or taking a short stroll down to the Terrace Bar where you can sip cocktails and listen to the waves breaking on the coral reef. The tours desk offer an excellent selection of excursions, something for everyone.

Very Highly Recommended.

Restaurant

We had our Wedding Breakfast aboard the Tamarind Dhow after several recommendations. We were not disappointed; the food was superb and very plentiful. I think that it was $75 per person but that included as much lobster, prawn, and steak as you could eat. It was a very magical experience and well worth the money.

Attraction

We started our safari from Mombasa and had a 4-hour hard drive up to Tsavo West. The animals we saw were amazing and so close. Our driver was very knowledgeable and informative. Our first night was spent in Ngulia Lodge, Ok is about all we can say about the rooms but the food was good and we saw the leopard eating the meat the hotel put out on a nightly basis.

The next morning we ventured on the Amboselli, a totally different park in all aspects. Zebra, Elephants and Gazelles were in abundance here. We stayed at Ol Tukai, heaven on earth, it is beautiful -- stay here if you can.

Our third morning was spent traveling four hours on to Tsavo West. The game here was more illusive but still very good. This is where we watched a cheetah for over an hour stalking some gazelles and a lion so close we could of touched him. Our hotel here was Voi Lodge, the rooms are very basic but clean and the food was quite good.

The next morning we traveled to Salk Lick. This is a much smaller park and very nice. The Hilton Salt Lick is a wonderful place to stay, excellent in every way. The game here was amazing; we watched a Lioness with her three month-old cubs for well over an hour, whilst her mate could be heard calling from the hills.

It is quite tiring doing the safari but so rewarding. I don’t think that I could ever go to a zoo again!
