A June 2004 trip to Fort Walton Beach by caseyt2

This location is on the water, but without a beach and is situated directly on busy highway US 98. The facilities were not up to RCI standards, being about the size of a small motel room. We could not recommend to other members.

There are numerous public beaches in the Ft. Walton-Destin area that are wide, clean, and contain white powder sand. Excellent dining choices in all price ranges are located throughout the area. The "Gulfarium" offers interesting live marine-life shows for the entire family.

Quick Tips:

Traffic along U.S. 98 running from Ft. Walton to Destin can be very heavy at certain times of the day. The lack of crossing signals or crosswalks also makes it very hazardous trying to walk across the highway either going to or coming from the beaches. Young children should be monitored at all times!

Best Way To Get Around:

Try for a Gulf-side location directly on a beach. A car is necessary to access various beach and dining sites.
Marina Bay Resort Unit
Our unit contained a very small bathroom, miniature stove and refrigerator, queen size bed, two bunk beds, and a day bed that doubled for a couch. The small size produced a feeling of claustrophobia that largely offset our liking for the beautiful beaches located about one mile away.
