Most people hear the word Alaska and think of Eskimos and snow. However a trip up the Inside Passage in the summer is an experience of green, even the glaciers are set against green growing forests and temperatures are far from the zero expected when the word Alaska is mentioned.

Overview

Columbia Glacier
As the band played the old song 'North to Alaska' we left Vancouver on our trip up the Inside Passage. The best way to travel the passage is North by ship and return South by plane, unless of course you go both ways by ship. The reason for this is very simple, if you do it this way the surroundings start off first-rate and just keep getting better. If you start in the north by ship and go south you see the best first and your panoramas diminish as you come south. On this trip you will see wonders you never dreamed of, for this journey is along a land that is for the most part unspoiled by civilization. An excursion during the summer months will impress upon you why they call this part of the world 'The Land of the Midnight Sun.' It just never gets darker than what I would call dusk. It seemed odd to us to be looking at glaciers at 11:00 PM with plenty of light to take photos. This trip will leave you in awe of the beauty of our planet. It is truly an experience not to be missed.

Quick Tips:

Cruising is by far and away the best way to see the Inside Passage. This allows you time to see the sights and/or just kick back and relax in beautiful surroundings.

Best Way To Get Around:

In most of the cities along the Inside Passage either walking or tour buses are the best. You don't have a lot of time so it is best to use it effectively.
