Offbeaten Maui

A June 2004 trip to Maui by txaggies98

Quote: Maui, Hawaii, is a popular place to visit, but did you know you can stay at a reasonable price if you don't stay in the major resort areas? Check out the resort entry below to learn more.

Kihei Akahi Resort

Hotel | "Kihei Akahi"

Quote:
Kihei Akahi is a great place to stay that is away from all of the main resort areas. The Kihei beach is just across the street from the resort, and you can find great snorkeling there in the morning. The units are not "plush" but more like a basic apartment - a great way to vacation in Hawaii on a budget. Plus there is a full kitchen in your unit so you can cook meals if you want to save even more money. Grocery store is only 3 blocks away.

Attraction | "Helicopter Ride"

Quote:
Going on a Helicopter Ride in Maui is an absolute must. You can see remote areas that have beautiful waterfalls - not accessible by any transporation except helicopter or plane. The pilot also gives great narration and you get a video of your flight after you are done. The ride is about $125/person but well worth the expense!

Road to Hana

Attraction

Quote:
The "Road to Hana" is an activity you can do on your own or through a tour group. If you decide to do it on your own, buy a "Road to Hana" tape from a local Maui store and it will guide your through the places to stop and see while you drive the "Road to Hana". I would also recommend you do it on your own so that you can control how long you stop and start in each place of interest. Going with a tour group might make the trip longer than planned and you might miss out on some beautiful places. Bring your bathing suit because at the end of the road there is a place called "Seven Pools" which is a great place to swim and cliff jump!
