This was a great bed and breakfast. Upon arrival I was informed that I had been upgraded to the Banyan Cottage. It was a wonderful cottage. The bed was very comfortable; there were two TVs with VCRs a large selection of videotapes and a great selection of books. Ken, the owner, met me at the door and invited me to a Christian gathering that night in one of the common areas. It was a potluck dinner, followed by a time of singing and prayer. The location was great for me. I wanted to be a few minutes away from the hustle of town and they are located about 10 minutes from town, 5 minutes to Wal-Mart/Borders and 15-20 minutes from the airport. There was a shower and hot tub in my room. I did not use the hot tub, but it looked to be easily large enough for two people. This is a great place to go and get in touch with nature and your own inner self.

Roy's Waikoloa Bar & GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Roy's"

Once again this Roy's proved why it is the best in the chain. The Macadamia Nut crusted fish was superb. This time I tried the cobbler for desert. It was a fresh berry cobbler made with strawberrys and blueberries. Wow, was it good. The atmosphere was very relaxed and enjoyable. The service is always great at this Roy's as well. NBA superstar David Robinson was eating with his family two tables over from me. The place is a bit pricey, $45 for entree and desert, but it is worth it. Save money somewhere else and eat at Roy's.

Big Island GrillBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

What a find! A local recommended this restaurant to me. I would have never tried it. It almost has a fast food feel to it from the street, but it was great. I had a sauteed fish that was excellent. The portions were huge. I wanted to try something from their extensive dessert menu but was too stuffed after eating the fish. The service was not great. This place was really busy for lunch and appears that it is even busier at dinner.

Black & Green Sand BeachBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Black & Green Sand Beach"

1st Beach
There is a straight road off of Hwy 11, between mile markers 89 and 90. Although there are no street signs, it is called Road to the Seas. It is six miles long and ends at the ocean. There is a very nice black and green sand beach there that is very secluded. It is a great place to swim or spend some time alone. You really need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there. In the middle of the 6-mile long road, there is a part of the highway that I am not sure regular cars can get past. Chances are slim that you will be able to get help if you get stuck, so don't try it if you don't have a 4-wheel drive.

After you look at this beach, come back up the road 1/5th of a mile and take the dog leg to the left, follow the spray painted arrows. This leads to a very nice overlook and eventually to an excellent beach. This is another beautiful black and green sand beach, easy to get to if you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. I went on a Saturday in June and had the entire beach to myself. Going a little farther down the coast, there is another beautiful black and green sand beach that had one couple with a small child playing. If you have the vehicle and time, this is a sight not to be missed.
