Jackson - the capital of Mississippi

A November 2000 trip to Jackson by Tideone

It had been quite a while since my last visit to Jackson and my how things have changed.

My most memorable moment of a visit to Jackson came on a November afternoon in 1980 at War Memorial Stadium when the Mississippi State Bulldogs upset the then number one ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, 6-3. It was the first time for MSU to beat Alabama in 25 years and it ended Alabama's 25-game winning streak, then the nation's longest. But I guess the thing I will remember the most is Alabama coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant coming into the MSU dressing room after the game and shaking the hands of the Bulldog players and congratulating them on winning the game.

Best Way To Get Around:

Downtown Jackson is a city full of one way streets but my biggest suggestion is to be sure and know where you are going before you start. Traffic is also very heavy on the interstates, especially at rush hour so don't expect to get anywhere in a real hurry.

This is such a neat place and is really a must visit attraction on any visit to the city of Jackson. Some good friends of our daughter was getting married, and she had rented the rose garden for the ceremony. Unfortunately it rained so the ceremony was moved inside the church - but it was still a lovely ceremony.
