Brugge is a very peaceful, beautiful town. It's a must-see if you like quaint villages or want to relax and experience the "real" Belgium.

We spent a very peaceful two days in Brugge. When you awoke in the morning, you could hear church bells, not traffic. The residents walk and ride bikes everywhere. The cafes are incredible -- this is a great place to wander without looking at the map. The Grote Markt is a great place to start, but wander down the side streets to get a feel of real life in Belgium. You can just imagine yourself in this town in the middle ages. It's a wonderful place to visit.

Quick Tips:

Bed & Breakfasts are the way to go here. Everyone is very friendly in the entire town. Stop and talk to the locals -- you'll have a great chat!

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking. We walked EVERYWHERE. We took the train from Brussels, then a taxi to our B&B. Everywhere else, we walked!

The owner is an architect, and it shows. The place is amazingly beautiful. It was bright and cheery, although the rooms are small and there is no TV. Although, if you're here, you should be out walking around instead of watching TV!

Restaurant

Our dinner was a unique twist on Italian. It had excellent service, the wait staff was eager to please. This was a place the locals hang out, and the food was excellent -- especially the desserts!

We walked and shopped. I can't tell you how badly my feet hurt at the end of the day, or just how much money I spent on lace, but we had an incredible time in Bruges. We saw just about everything you could see -- the Stadhuis, the Grote Markt, we ate mussels, we ate chocolate (the Chocolate Line was good, but my favorite is Galler), bought nephew's presents at Krokodile, and just wandered the streets taking rolls upon rolls of film. We bought sketches from a local artist, took the boat cruise and a van trip from the Grote Markt to see everything. We just got lost and pretended to be locals -- this was a great way to unwind and relax. We took the recommendation of our B&B owner for our dinner's--Tom's Diner is excellent!
