Terrigal and Avoca Beach - just off Sydney

You're in Sydney. You've seen the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, the Botanical Gardens... it's a great city but, surely there's more than Bondi Beach around, right? Where can you go for a one or two-day long tour? I'll tell you: Catch the train to Gosford (or Newcastle or Wyong, they'll get you there too). Then get on a bus to Avoca Beach or to Terrigal. These towns are so small that the people are heaps friendlier than in Sydney... prices cheaper, days brighter. Taking the simplest stroll, you’ll discover the awesome beaches and the colors of the clear blue ocean against the deep brown earth, beaches of sands, and beaches of rocks... watch the local men fish, see the boats. There are heaps...Read More

Situated in the Terrigal Bowl, the lodge is only 100 metres away from the beach, shops, cafes, restaurants and transport. Free use of bodyboards and surf board. Internet kiosk at hostel.

Local activites include surfing, sailboarding, kayaking, fishing charters, diving, hiking, horseriding, abseiling and golf. Visit Old Sydney Town, the Australian Reptile park and the Fragrant garden. Overlook the beach in the local beer garden or simply work on your tan lazing on the beach.

This theater is actually a historic site for them. It has its own history of being built, of surviving danger of demolition, tales of woe, and passing of the years, being a landmark on its own right. As you step inside, you are greeted with its unique (quite visual) decor and environment. Heaps of pictures, paintings and articles about the theater itself are on display, as are the upcoming movie posters and the 'now showing' cardboard cutouts. Modest chandeliers hang from the ceiling, beautiful chairs and a sofa invite you to wait for the show, and as the four doors open to let you into the theater, you walk in to see a player at the piano, reminiscing days of old when the movies were silent. The Terrigal Hotel

Attraction

Quote:
This is actually a very nice hotel. Celebrities have been known to come spend a few days here, while on a break from Sydney engagements (such as U2). Take your time going up the staircase and main rooms. The bar has a very good atmosphere, being a nice pub on the main area, but if you go to the back, it has a very cozy library with a fireplace (believe me it's great in winter time) and huge sofas. You can take your drinks in here and sit around the amazingly comfortable mini-living rooms, creating a wonderful ambience for conversation. The view out the windows is quite nice, and if you were planning on a drink during the day, you should really try the garden (veranda?).

Avoca Pub

This place has a huge screen to watch the footie in! The sole purpose of our visit was to watch the rugby match and have a few beers, but we stayed well after the footie was over, because the ambience was just great. A band was playing live, good songs and performance, so everybody got off their seats and started dancing. There's also a room with heaps of pokies (slot machines and all sorts of casino-like and arcade-like games) which tend to be quite popular. All through Australia you should really ask for local beer, it is choice! These are some of the best ones i tried: Tooheys New, Reches Real, Extra Dry, Crown Lager, Hahn Premium, and the best of all: V.B.

I'm not about to tell you about some fancy restaurant with candlelit dinner and soft music. Take your mate by the hand and head downtown. We went to the local fish market. After carefully choosing our very nice prawns, we decided on the way we would like them cooked, and the side dish of chips, naturally... :) Our choice of drinks, and off we went to the beach. You can sit on a bench and have your food there, while watching people passing by, the surf, and the seagulls... the sunset...This is an experience you won't forget...
