Exploring St. Andrews

A July 2003 trip to St. Andrews by wlrn99

To escape to a relaxing spot, you need to visit St. Andrews-by-the-Sea in gorgeous New Brunswick!

If you are travelling to St. Andrews, you definitely need to walk down the main street and enjoy all of the unique shops. Another stop on your trip has to be the ocean shore! Minister's Island, which has a beautiful summer home (in the process of being restored) is another must-see. There is great golfing, for those who enjoy golf. If you have children, or are young at heart, you should check out the Huntsman Marine Science Centre Aquarium/Museum. For the nature conservatives, you would enjoy the Atlantic Salmon Interpretive Centre. For a small town, they offer something that will interest almost anyone! For additional information, be sure to check out St. Andrews' website (visitor's section).

Quick Tips:

Be willing to accept that it could be foggy and cool in St. Andrews -- it is right off of the Atlantic Ocean. The fog only adds to its charm, if you let it!

Best Way To Get Around:

The main area of St. Andrews would best be enjoyed by walking; however, to see many of the sites, you would be better off to have a car. Parking is relatively easy to find, if you need it.
The Tara Manor Inn is a beautiful hotel located on the outskirts of St. Andrews, yet it is still close to the town. It is the former estate of Sir Charles Tupper and has a lot of architectural and decorative appeal. I stayed in a queen size room and it was very tastefully decorated with a sitting area, bedroom, and bathroom (complete with Jacuzzi tub). The room was really clean and everything was provided that was needed. If anything was not in the room that you needed, the people at front desk were more than accommodating. All in all, it was a fantastic experience!

Restaurant

What an amazing dining experience! From the moment you walk through the door you feel as if you've walked back through time into a beautifully restored Victorian home where your meal is artfully arranged in front of you. This is a beautiful restaurant! The tables were all decorated with fresh flowers and gleaming silverware. The atmosphere was enhanced by soft music playing in the background.

The food tasted divine! I tried the lobster bisque. (This was recommended by the waitress and for good reason!) It was definitely worth trying. The entire experience was everything I expected and more.

The Inn on Frederick also offers accommodations, and I am sure that they are as nice as their restaurant. You can check out their website to see additional information on the inn/restaurant at their website.

The Atlantic Salmon Interpretive Centre provides information concerning Salmon that live in New Brunswick streams. The Centre offers an exhibit that allows you to view the salmon swimming in the brook through glass insets in the walls. After learning everything that you can in the interpretive center, you can go outside and walk on the walking trails. To see pictures of the center, please see their website.
