Quote: We arrived at DeGaulle Airport after a wonderful flight from Amsterdam on Air France. The weather was overcast, but a rainbow appeared as we exited the airport. We felt it was good omen for our trip. We were not disappointed.

The hotel lobby was nicely decorated and clean. The staff was very accommodating for our every request. Since we arrived before noon, the rooms were not available so we left our luggage and went out for lunch. There was a small elevator that two people and their luggage could barely fit in, but this was better than none at all. Our rooms were adequate in size with a small, but very modern bath. Our children stayed in a room next door (not adjoining) that was similar in layout and size. The chambermaids were very efficient and polite all during the week we stayed. They honored any request we had with regard to toiletries, towels, cleaning the rooms, etc. The hotel was well lo...Read More

The Hotel Agora St Germain is within easy walking distance (about 2 blocks) from the Maubert Mutualite Metro station on Rue St Germain. The dining room of the hotel is located in the basement. Breakfast was served there for an additional charge above the cost of the room. The room was very nicely decorated in an Old World style with linens, silverware and stemware on each table. Although the room was in the basement, it did not feel small. There was plenty of room to maneuver between the tables and the buffet. The buffet was well equipped with enormous croissants, hard rolls, cheeses, fruit, dry cereal, milk, jellies, jams, preserves, coffee, and juices. The apricot preserves were n...Read More

The shopping at Montparnasse is very similar to a mall in the United States. It is easy to get to from any part of the city by taking the Metro. The Montparnasse Bienvenue stop on the subway is on the Chatillian-Montrouge line. There are international shops: United Colors of Benetton, DKNY, Nike, etc. in addition to French department store chains. Like any mall, prices might be higher due to high lease rates for retailers, but we were able to find bargains in every store we visited. Like most malls, Montparnasse has a "food court". The food court has fast food and at least one reasonably priced full service restaurant. We ate at the latter, although we can't remember the name. The food was ligh...Read More

The Musee de l'Orangerie is a small museum located on the west end of the Tullerie Gardens. The setting of lush greenery and fountains is ideal for this type of museum since it is a very intimate place. The museum is tucked into a corner of the gardens and would be missed by those looking for a museum of the Louvre's size and magnitude. We actually enjoyed it much more than the Louvre because it is just the right size to appreciate the artwork within. Our absolute favorite part was located downstairs in small rooms with curved walls. Monet's work was displayed here. This venue seemed to suit his pieces very well. When we walked into each room, we got a sense of the scale and beauty in nature dep...Read More

Since Paris is known as the City of Light, enjoying the city at night by walking and taking the Metro is really a lovely way to experience it. You can get really dramatic pictures of famous landmarks as well as share a romantic evening with someone special. We started our tour by taking the Metro to the Trocadero across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. My father-in-law put us on to this as the best place to get pictures of the tower. As usual, Father knows best. This location gave us a great view with enough distance to get some perspective. We also didn't have to deal so much with the crowds at the time we went. Our next stop was the Ch. de Gaulle-Etoile where we came up out of the Me...Read More

We arrived at the Invalides Metro station and went up to the street level on the esplanade approaching the military museum. Behind us was the Pont Alenxander III bridge with golden eagles atop the four corners. The garden area was manicured beautifully and the buildings were very ornate on the outside. The military museum was packed with war artifacts including weapons and uniforms from France's history. My husband was very interested in the design of weapons and their progression, but I also was enthralled by the sense of history and how the items were presented. Initially, I thought it would be just a "guy thing", but it proved to be very interesting to the women in our party as well. It was a...Read More

We took the Metro to the Pont Neuf stop just north of the river near the Samaritaine Department store. This was an afternoon ride and there were not too many people on board. We departed from the dock and headed east and went around the island where Notre Dame is built. After going around to the back side of Notre Dame, then we went over to the west to view some of the famous sights of Paris. As we traveled down the river, a taped recording described in English and French what we were looking at on either side. The boat was covered so we could be inside where it was warm and dry, but I was also able to go outside to take pictures. This tour took us past the Musee du Louve, O...Read More
