Smokey Mountains

A May 2004 trip to Gatlinburg by hockey19

The resort was nestled in the mountains and the views were breathtaking. We toured the Smokey Mountain National Park, went up to Clingman's Dome and Cades Cove, visited many other attractions, and saw shows in Gatlinberg and Pigeon Forge.

Best Things Nearby:
The Trolley Depot was close by. The grocery store, restaurants, arts and crafts loop, and shops.

Best Things About the Resort:
The room was clean. We had a whirlpool tub, washer/dryer in unit, and a spectacular view of the Smokey Mountains.

Resort Experience:
We were on the fifth floor of unit #3; the units were built on the mountain. The view from our porch of the Smokey Mountains was spectacular. We had a one-bedroom with a whirlpool tub, separate shower, king size bed (the mattress was very comfortable), living room with a fireplace, dining area, and full kitchen. The unit was well equipped and very clean. Everything was perfect.

The resort is nestled in the mountains; they have an indoor/outdoor pool, activity center, and activity desk with discount attraction tickets. The room was spacious, clean, and well equipped.

Lunch was delicious and the food was all home cooking. I had the fried chicken and he had the country fried steak. All meals start with an apple julianne and apple fritters with apple butter; with lunch, you get homemade biscuits and corn bread.

It's a cozy restaurant with farmhouse decor. The waiters and waitresses dress in the attire of the 1800s. There is also a cider barn, creamery, country store, winery, and a cafe on the premises. It was an enjoyable time.

This is a dinner show. They start with a pre-show, when you can order drinks, popcorn, and peanuts. The drinks are in a souvenir cowboy glass. After the pre show entertainment, which was very good, you go into the main arena. You start off with beverages. The meal is eaten with your fingers. You have cream of vegetable soup, biscuits, rotisserie chicken, corn on the cob, barbecue pork loin, roasted potatoes, and an apple turnover for dessert. The meal was delicious.

The show is a horseback competition between the North and the South and includes people from the audience as participants. It was very enjoyable. We were on the North and they won that night.

The restaurant is in an old working grist mill. The interior decor is very rustic. The meal began with homemade corn chowder, salad, corn fritters with maple butter, and homemade biscuits, I had sugar cured ham steak and he had the pot roast; mashed potatoes and green beans are served family style. Both meals were very good. Dessert was included -- pecan pie, apple cobbler, or chocolate cake -- which could also be taken home. We brought ours back to the resort.
