Our vacation was a very good mixture of activities and leisure. We drove from Kokomo, Indiana to McGaheysville, Virginia. The weather was pleasant throughout our trip. We relaxed completely the next day of our arrival. We took a drive on the Skyline drive on the second day. The drive was simply superb with a lot of overlooks providing breathtaking views of the Valley. There are also a number of hikes with good views of waterfalls. Washington DC was about two and a half hours away from our resort. We visited the Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, National Air and Space Museum, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, and the Bureau of Engraving and Prin...Read More

We exchanged our week through RCI at Massanutten Resort. This is our first exchange with RCI and it was a truly memorable one. We got a one-bedroom apartment on the first floor. The apartment can accommodate up to four people and it had a living room with a fireplace, TV, VCR, and a comfortable sofa set (convertible to bed). The dining area was an extension of the living room. The apartment had a partial kitchen with all basic appliances like mini fridge, two-burner stove, microwave oven, mini grill, an electric pan, complete dinner set for six people, and other utensils (set of 6 small/big spoons/forks, knives, ) that were more than sufficient for both of us. The bedroom was gorgeous...Read More

Best Things Nearby:The resort is logistically well placed; it is very near to the famous Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. It is a very good place to have lodging and visit Washington DC. The resort conducts one-day tour to DC. The resort is self sufficient in the sense that it had restaurants and even grocery stores. The have all the necessary equipment for golf and tennis. The city of Harrisonburg, where you can find all the regular malls, is about 15 miles from the resort Best Things About the Resort:When you are in the resort, the nature comes to you. We have spotted, on a number of occasions, deer, groundhogs, and several other animals within the resort grounds. ...Read More

We decided to have a leisure breakfast and visited the Fareways Restaurant located inside the resort. We got a table by the window providing a very good outside view and it was a perfect place for us. The ambience was good and so was the service.

I ordered a French omelette with vegetables and white bread toast, and my wife ordered a bagel with cream cheese and hot chocolate. The quality and quantity were good. And surprisingly, the price was just right considering the fact that it was operated by resort. The menu had lot of options in it.

A leisure drive on the 105-mile long skyline drive is worth the time and $10 per head (for one week) fees. The drive provides several overlooks, which provide breathtaking views of the Shenandoah Valley. The speed limit on this drive is 35mph, so take your own time and drive. We encountered several deer, turkeys, and several marsupials. You could park your car near the overlook and take your own time to appreciate the nature's beauty. There are numerous hikes one could take; they range from less than a mile round trip to 14 miles round trip. These hikes take you to waterfalls and some give a good view for sunrise/sunset viewing. The skyline drive has several campgrounds like ...Read More

I would like to call the city of Washington DC Memorial City simply due to the fact that there are numerous number of memorials built for the people who have made some difference to America. My long-standing desire to visit all these memorials came true during this visit and I did not miss this opportunity. We visited Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Washington Monument, JFK Memorial, and the newly built World War II Memorial. In the due course, I learned a lot about American history. There is a lift ride offered at the Washington Monument, which takes you to 500 ft high in the monument. You get a very good view of the city from up there. ...Read More

Natural Bridge is about 80 miles from the resort and is truly a natural wonder. Natural Bridge is 215 feet high, 40 feet thick, and 100 feet wide, with a 90 foot span between the walls. This is estimated to be 500 million years old. The entire complex is situated on over 1,600 acres and comprises the Natural Bridge, Monacan Indian Living History Village, waterfalls, wax museum, caverns, toy museum, and the Haunted Monster Museum. Apart from these attractions, there is a hotel, restaurant, and gift center. Purchase a ticket for $10 per head and walk for about a quarter mile to see the Natural Bridge. The chair lift ride was certainly most exciting activity during our trip. The ride started in the resort and went all the way on to top of Massanutten peak (elevation of 2920ft). The ride cost $5 per head. First, we took the ride on Lift 4, which was a short one, and then we changed to lift 6. This lift took us all the way to the peak. On that day, the weather was good with scattered clouds. You can see the Blue Ridge Mountains from the top of the peak. The entire resort is visible with the mountains as a backdrop. The ascent was smooth and the greenery around was very pleasing. Once you reach the top, there is a small trail that leads to the view on the other side of the mountain. On ...Read More
