A June 2004 trip to Galveston by mindless

Moody gardens is a must. Take trolley tours and learn about the history and even pirates. Then there's Six Flags Astro World, Houston and sand/water... There is something for everyone! Even Rainforest Cafe has moved in. Try the volcano dessert at this restaurant; four can eat it!

Best Things Nearby:
Nothing is very close but Houston and Galveston are within driving range.

Best Things About the Resort:
Pool and activity room.
Catch a few movies to rent.

Resort Experience:
There isn't a water view but the resort is very newish and clean. Walk to the beach and there's a private area. Kitchen is fairly complete for cooking and grills are downstairs. The facility was very quiet when I was there.

Great family place and easy on the budget... Shrimp is the specialty on the island... food here is filling and there's lots of it! Our kids loved it! The staff and decor are very kid friendly! Best part is that you can go as you are!

Nowhere is there a place like this! The waiters are wonderful and it was shocking that they didn't even write our orders down, yet they brought them all perfectly. The service is the best you will find. Order the grilled shrimp! Call ahead or you may wait forever! It's kid friendly.

The Rainforest CafeBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This is a hit-and-miss on being crowded, but if you have kids, this is a must see because the elephants, monkeys, and birds come alive at different moments. The food a bit pricey, but the volcano dessert is fun to see -- it feeds four people easily!

Attraction | "Moody Gardens - Rainforest Pyramid"

This 10-story Rainforest Pyramid offers an incredible tropical environment and is home to the largest bat exhibit in the Southwest. It was wonderful to see all the wildlife, including live birds, fish, turtles, and live bats. It was like being lost in a real tropical forest. There are three different exhibits, but we only did the rainforest one.

Amaze 'N TexasBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The kids loved going through this human maze. If you get out fast enough, they will give you a discount on your next trip. Look for codes hidden all around. The maze changes each season. It's great for kids 8 and up! Parents can watch from nearby.

Attraction | "Trolley Car Tour"

Ride the trolley cars that are like those used in late 1800s and early 1900s and listen to info on historical Galveston. They came by every 20 minutes and you can be dropped off and picked back up...great for the shopping the Strand which has limited parking. Costs were .50 to $1 - much less than parking lots on the Strand and not near the fun. Kids enjoy it too!
