Quote: Although we do enjoy Cancun, we prefer to drive a few miles south for the more relaxing flavor of the Yucatan Peninsula in the Playa del Carmen area. I'll share with you what I found to be fun in the area and some of the resorts that we've enjoyed.

This small timeshare resort recently added on two new sections to an already existing resort. We purchased a studio unit that wasn't yet built, and we finally saw the end result. The two new sections blend in so well, you'd never know they were added years later. We moved into our beautiful, spacious studio, right at water's edge and even with a Jacuzzi on the balcony. All the amenities are here--marble throughout, light wood furniture, ample storage for two (tight for four), a hair dryer, a safe, microwave, two-burner stove, small fridge, a large cabinet that serves as storage/bar, and a TV cabinet. Iberostar Paraiso Beach Resort is a deluxe - not luxury – all-inclusive for the mass market. It's an enormous resort made up of four hotels. Beach and Delmar are the two older ones that are less expensive and cater mainly to Europeans. They wear green-and-yellow bracelets and have access to the entire property, but are limited to only these two resorts for their meals and drinks. They do not have access to bars in the Lindo/Maya side. Lindo and Maya are the two newer hotels catering to mostly Americans - these guests wear gray-and-brown bracelets and have access to the entire Paraiso compound.
