There is a great bookstore next door and a farmer's market across the street. I ordered the "Victorian Pancakes" which are the thin crepes. This old-fashioned style 1950's diner located north of the Latin Quarter and Downtown at the corner of Mont Royal West and St. Urbain has been voted the "best brunch" in Montreal for many years. The restaurant was started in 1941 and still retains the 1950's decor with the chrome and plush booths. It has apparently also retained its popularity since there was a line out the door when we arrived (mostly because there is nowhere to wait inside). After parking our car in the metered lot next to the science museum, we asked the first buggy driver in line what her rates were. A 30-minute tour was $35 and a 45-minute tour was $50. We chose the 30-minute tour. The driver was French-Canadian, but also spoke English. She drove us up to the square on Commune and then around the Old Part of the city pointing out sites like the Notre Dame Cathedral and old seminary as well as restaurants along with her opinion of them. The main entrance to the Garden is at the corner of Pie-IX and Sherbrooke and there is parking in a lot at the garden on Sherbrooke, just past Pie-IX and if that is full there is another lot at the insectarium (part of the garden) and also for a higher price (but more likely to have free spaces) the garage at the olympic stadium which has underground parking garage spaces for CD$12 for the day. We enjoyed a drive up to the observation point at Mont-Royal in the park of the same name. There was parking at the observation point for $1.75/hr (metered), but we only stayed for a few minutes so we didn't have to pay. The view is definitely worth the drive up. You can see a panoramic view of Montreal sprawled out before you. Especially on a sunny and clear day you really can see it all. There were also coin-operated telescopes for kids or people who want to take a closer look. This is a great activity to do on the way to something else if you are in the neighborhood.
