Amsterdam

A May 2004 trip to Amsterdam by M@uricio

Birthday of BudhaMore Photos

The train trip from Brussels was described as long, but chatting with Mexican friends made it nothing but the contrary. Amsterdam was full of plenty of sunny people of all kinds, without forgetting the bicycles and entertainers. One day was enough to visit Anne Frank's house, have dinner, and take a lovely canal tour.

Overview

One shop
The Dam, De Jordaan. Don't miss a canal cruise!

Quick Tips:

Hey, need to go to the toilet? No problem. Near the Dam, enter the Bijenkorf Shopping Mall and go to the fifth floor -- just take along €0,25 for the fee.

Best Way To Get Around:

For a one-day visit to the city, we recommend walking, or taking the canal bus (hop on, hop off).

Thirsty
On a lovely, sunny square our group ordered a light meal, after a very big pint of beer. I ordered salmon wrapped in a kind of Mexican crêpe: which was very delicious and not expensive (about €14,50). Staff was very friendly and loved to take pictures for us. Hotel Pulitzer

Birthday of Budha
Asian people in original colourful cloths play typical music, exhibit dances, and prepare spicy food to the honour of Buddha. The dragon dances add something of a carnival spirit.

Holland International
You buy the ticket and get on the boat at Damrak, a three-minute walk from Central Station. It is a guided tour, narrated in Dutch, English, and German. If the weather is good, you'll have value for money.

At a higher price, you can have night cruises with an Indonesian dinner upon certain vessels.
