A Quick Dip in Key Largo

Our quick dip really was. Quick that is. We arrived late Thursday, dove on Friday, and headed home Saturday. I had a great time, but was happy to be leaving on Saturday. This was Memorial Day weekend and traffic coming onto the key was at a standstill. Everything was just getting crowded as we left.Quick Tips: The great thing about the Holiday Inn we stayed at here is that the dive boats are literally right outside the door of your room. No need to get an early start. No drive to the marina. No carrying heavy gear across hot parking lots. Everything was right there. Best Things Nearby:Shopping, dining, bar, and marina with charter boats. The John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park is only a short distance away.Best Things About the Resort:Everything is within walking distance. No need to drive once you get there.Resort Experience:This place is self contained. The marina is right at the hotel, so if fishing or diving is what you're there for, it's great. There is a restaraunt and gift shop at the hotel, and a great bar down at the marina. There are two pools with a tiki bar and hot tub between them. The Holiday Inn is also home of the original African Queen, the original boat used in the making of the classic Bogart film....Read More

There were many barracuda ranging in size from less than a foot to about four feet long. A school of about 10 Tarpon swam by, which were pretty big and we just caught a glimpse of a spotted ray that was probably about six feet from wingtip to wingtip. The second dive was at " White Sands". Depth was more like 10...Read More
