Serena Mountain Lodge is a very nice first day stop, as you'll have the opportunity to observe the animals at the waterhole for as long as you want (don't forget to sleep. . .). At Lake Nakuru, look for some rhinos, as they are very difficult to find in some of the other parks (e.g. Maasai Mara). Maasai Mara’s high grass makes it a bit more difficult to spot the animals in May; drive at the fall of the evening to find the hyenas sleeping on the dirt roads.

Quick Tips:

Travelling in the second half of May was nice because there were very few other tourists, which is quite a relief and limits the number of tourists per driver. The lions and cheetahs were difficult to spot in the high grass, but we had incredible panoramic sights across the plains.

Best Way To Get Around:

Try to arrange your safari tours before departing, or at the bigger hotels, as this will often prove less expensive as trying to negotiate at the spot. Avoid 'normal' passenger vehicles at this season, as you won't see anything due to the high grass.
Very colonial-style building, recently refurbished in the middle of the city. Nice change to the 'standard' big hotel chains which have the same rooms all over the world.

All rooms have view of the water hole, with special panoramic viewing terrace at the top floor.

Quite surrealistic, as you can sip your tea or coffee while watching all the wild animals coming for a drink.

Hyenas might come out at dusk to chase some bucks.

This is a bungalow-type architecture, where most rooms face the lake, but few can see it due to the trees in front of the rooms. There are lots of groups passing by and all seem to leave at the same moment for the game drives.

Very nice design, combining classical Maasai architecture with some (modern) bright colors. Incredible view of the Mara plains from every single room. Very friendly staff and good food.
