Overview

Women Welcome Women World Wide is an organization open to any woman interested in traveling. The members visit with each other in their homes, thus encouraging friendships as well as gaining an insight into the lives of people in other countries. Many members also welcome husbands and/or children. In addition to home visits, the group sponsors "gatherings," which are little vacations for members often centered around a certain theme, such as how to make an English garden or the city of Canterbury.Quick Tips: If you want to become a member of this organization just go to the web site at: http://www.womenwelcomewomen.org.uk/ It is very nice to spend part of a vacation visiting wi...Read More

This member had a large house in a London suburb. Several members were visiting at the same time, one from Australia, one from Arizona, and myself. We had a day in Bromley, a day, with theater, in London, and a visit to the city of Rochester, a place I would not have know about if my hostess had not suggested it. Rochester had an outstanding cathedral, as welll as a unique Dickens Museum.

Small rooms with a bed, sink, desk and chest which opened onto a corridor with a shared shower and a toilet. My room looked out over the old city, with a marvelous view of Canterbury Cathedral lighted up at night. It was possible to imagine Henry's henchmen riding up to the cathedral to do their dirty deed. The included breakfast was delicious, with vegetarian as well as regular options.

Using the 5W list

Story/Tip

When a woman becomes a member of 5W, her name is put on a list. The list includes all members, their country, their addresses, email, and telephone numbers, as well as occupation and interests. It is interesting just to read the list, and to see where people live and what they like. Because it is an English-speaking organization, the majority of members live in the UK, Canada, Australia, and the USA, although there are also many from Japan, northern Europe, and Switzerland, and a few from most of the countries of the world. If a member would like to make a visit, she contacts the potential hostess, and they make arrangements for a convenient time. I have several epals whom I have visited, and ...Read More

Oh, to be able to make friends with people from nine countries while sightseeing in a lovely old walled town. Well, it is possible when attending a gathering with 5W. Local members planned an itinerary of exciting activities, including a visit with the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, lunch in a five century old tavern, a visit to the Catherdral (of course!) and a program of Indian music (after a long day, and I am afraid that several women slept, but none of us snored). Of course, each year the gatherings are different, with a variety that could please almost anyone.
