Country clubs, soccer games, dating activities for you young ones. There is even a special location for the love birds in Rio Preto,at the repressa. Don't miss the many night clubs and country clubs in my hometown.

Quick Tips:

Public bus is very reasonable. Taxi cabs are good as well, but not as good as buses for the pocket book.

Best Way To Get Around:

Public buses depart from the center of the city. Taxis are located all around and a train is adjacent to the bus station.

Churrascaria GauchaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant | "Churrascaria Gaucha"

Churrascaria Guacha is a local favorite for the lovers of steak and fine eating.

It has two locations in town, this one at Rua Prudente de Moraes, and the other at Rua Rio Preto.

Its fine selection of meats served on white linen topped tables is simply unlimited. Meats are served by a garcon (waiter), with several other condiments like lemon for seasoning.

It is a bang for the buck establishment, and is frequented very often by the populace.

There is a bar in the back of the establishment; which serves your cerveja(beer) to accompany your dining. This location is great for the whole family. I especially enjoy the ambient service here. It is best to visit this establishment on a near empty stomach, since the meats are brought to you constantly.

When looking for it, you'll know you have arrived by its blue colored whitewashed walls at its entrance.

KiberamaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Kiberama is a fine establishment for those who care to experiment with a part of the Middle East. Its wonderful selection of plates like kibe and other arabic foods will not be disappointing. Foods are spiced in a very tasteful manner. You will not be hungry after departing this place. Prices are quite fair too.

Clube Monte LibanoBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

The Clube Monte Libano is among the finest in Rio Preto. There are several other ones worth mentioning like Automobile Club and Palestra. But, this club is very exciting to visit while in town. It is a private club, though most foreigners visiting Rio Preto have gotten free admission to its facilities in the center of town or its country club. To desire entrance, go to its main offices on Rua Siqueira Campos, 2943, and talk to its general staff informing them, you are visiting in town. They have been most helpful to tourists.

Go for it and enjoy. You desire it. The center of town night club is a favorite among the youth for its encounters of "paquera", flirting. Have fun and you won't be disappointed.

Its country club is accessable by car or by bus. Its activites are soccer and volleyball, as mentioned before as well as tennis, swimming, aerobics. There are classes offered in yoga, dance (a favorite among visitors). Many sports as well as gymnastics, golf and boche.

For those not familiar with boche, it is a type of bowling game in which balls are tossed very gracefully along a rectangular court and the closest one forward wins points.

Each team is permitted to hit the opponents boche ball, therefore outplacing it. It is a game very popular and quite graceful, for tossing the ball fast will simply achieve failure.

Have fun!

The Municipal Theatre is a favorite for splendid dances and other forms of plays. It is also home to annual National Festival of Theatre in Rio Preto. It is frequented by large crowds. Brazilians admire the arts, so you won't see too many empty seats here. Rio Preto has a large percentage of middle and high class citizens whom frequent all the time. Sit back and enjoy the performances.

The Rio Preto water reserve is the real post card of Rio Preto. It is very popular with the locals as well as tourists. During the night hours, it is popular with the love birds.

The water reserve is located very near to the center of the park, so all important aspects of the city are within close reach of the reserve. There are picnic tables, trees and gardens everywhere.

You will enjoy the relaxation of the surrounding here.

Center of town water fountain
Rio Preto is truly blessed with a wonderful center of town. Its heart is filled with trees and birds whom migrate from the United States each and every year. The beautiful water fountain is a site to see.

There are many shops adjacent to the center for visitors and locals as well. The post office located heading away from town is a favorite for stamp collectors, since Brazil is known for its very colorful stamps placed into circulation.

A block away, you'll find the town bus station constantly busy, for Rio Preto is a major interior city of Sao Paulo for its commerce.

There are several outside cafes and restuarants outlining the center. It is worth ordering a traditional cuisine of feijao (black bean), arroz(rice) and carne(meat). Don't forget a plentiful salad with its selection of garnishes.

You will find many of the city's main country club city facilities nearby too. Like Palestra and Monte Libano.

There are each day, street vendors outlining the sidewalks and core of the park. You will find extremely good deals here. One thing to remember. Competition is the lifestyle, so barter for a better price. It is acceptable and fun too. You will find fine leather belts for only five dollars, and upon bartering, may lower the price to about four dollars, if anticipating to buy a dozen or so. The vast rectangular shape of the center of the city park has terrific choices. Pickpockets are not a major concern, but for the ones whom look like easy prey, they will be had as in any town. Tip: Carry your wallet in front pocket.

There are a lot of places to visit in Rio Preto. You may care to go eat at one of many different restaurants which most are of good service and good prices. With the strength of the US dollar, it makes your purchase that much more a bang for your buck. The nightclubs are very frequented and generally only close when the last patron leaves the premise. Consider watching a rodeo visited by thousands from the region . It is very popular. And, don't forget to simply relax. A visit to the municipal reserve, locally known as repressa is a favorite with all. During the night, its surroundings are always occupied with young lovers participating in the sport(LOL) of parking. Its wonderful radiance at night is very admired. During the day, a visit tothe library located very near the repressa is worth the visit too. Its architectural design is truly remarkable. It has a endless supply of books and magazines, among english publications too. You will know are at the library when its outer walls resemble a tarantula spider. Adjacent to the library heading towards the center of town you will view a outdoor market of vendors of arts and crafts as well. Good shopping for souvenirs.
Beginning in 1840, mineiros(population of minas gerais),began the exploration of agriculture and domesticated animals.

Founded on March 19, 1852, by Luiz Antonio da Silveira, whom donated some of his properties owned in the name of his patron saint, Sao Jose(St. Joseph),to begin a villa later to be known as Sao Jose do Rio Preto.

On March 21, 1879, being part of the municipal of Jaboticabal, the founders began the process of converting the known city into villa.

On July 19, 1894; Sao Jose do Rio Preto is torn away from Jaboticabal, into being a municipal.

In 1904, the town is known as Sao Jose, and only after time in 1945, does it become known as Sao Jose do Rio Preto.
