My most memorable memories of Monterey took place on a family visit. We enjoyed a New's Years Eve dinner (my sister's birthday, a quiet walk on the Wharf, a stroll on Cannery Row and ended it with a visit to the ER. All was well :-)

Quick Tips:

Within a the area there are a few special places to visit such as Pebble Beach, Carmel and Big Sur.

The great location overlooking Monterey Bay makes this a wonderful place to stay. Imagine being so close to the sound of the surf, the scent of the ocean , the sight of boats coming and going and don't forget the views of the playful sea otters.

We sat at the back wall which is a glass window with a view of the bay. One thing...it got a bit chilly since the night was cold.

The food was excellent. The seafood was fresh and prepared wonderfully.

A great place to sit back and relax. The Cafe is known for their handbrewed ales. There close to 20 pool tables alone. Also here you will find darts, shuffleboard, foosball (why can't I ever win!). This is the place to spend the evening with friends having a blast.

The three story tall living kelp forest is my favorite. In the aquarium you will find jellyfish, octupus, turtles, tuna, sharks and so much more. The times I've been here there were school trips taking place. I loved watching the kids expressions of wonderment.

This wine tasting room has one of the best views of the ocean. If you enjoy wine, this is the place for you. There is a great gift shop. They have an extensive selection of the regional wines of Monterey and the surrounding area.

Located at 700 Cannery Row, upstairs.

Cannery Row

Story/Tip

Quote:
Taking down the modern Cannery Row is hard to imagine the street made famous by John Steinbeck, the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winner. The history of the modern Cannery is one of rebirth. Once these streets were alive with fisherman, whalers, cannery works and today is is alive with families, tourist and shoppers.

Today's visitors can enjoy the Aquarium, many restaurants, shops (both exclusive and fun). galleries, jewelry stores and wine tasting rooms.
