Proposal in Paradise

An April 2004 trip to Nuevo Vallarta by scotthalliburton

This was by far the most incredible resort I have stayed at in my 14 years with RCI. I spent a long weekend with my now fiancee with the intent on proposing to her. The resort, location, amenities, and staff far exceeded our expectations.

From the moment you step out of the taxi, you know you are in heaven. They greet you with cold towels to cool off, then escort you to a couch for check-in and a drink. After you are finished, they take your luggage to one of the many gorgeous rooms that overlook the ocean and mountains. You will not want to leave. You feel like the rich and famous when you are there. From the beds, furnishings, and stocked refrigerator, it takes your breath away.

The pool area, with a three-level, three-temperature infinity pool, is the most impressive pool I have experienced. The staff brings drinks and food to you poolside, and you can also get room service around the clock.

I could go on and on -- do yourself a favor and visit.

We ate dinner at Lucca the night I was going to propose to my girlfriend. What a way to start an incredible night! The atmosphere and ocean view were incredible, but that is not where it ended.

We both had one of the best meals ever and we travel extensively. I opted for the tasting menu, which had five courses of beef and seafood. My fiancee had the best penne carbonara she has ever tasted. This was an unforgettable meal at an unforgettable resort. Also ask for the Mexican coffee prepared tableside -- they mix coffee, tequila, and Bailey's, light it on fire, and put on a show. Not only was it entertaining, but also very good.

We took a catamaran ride on the Geronimo. The staff was great. They took us to a small island where we snorkeled for 30 minutes and saw tons of marine life. After that, we went to a public beach for an hour to hang out. On the way back, we hoisted the sails and enjoyed some cerveza. We were surprised by a dolphin who swam next to the boat and jumped in the air under our feet that were dangling off the side of the boat.

Attraction

Los Camponos was an eight-hour horseback riding trip in the Sierra Madre mountains. An hour-long bus ride to the location was filled with history of the area -- very educational. Then we spent three hours riding horses through the mountains, crossing over rivers, visiting waterfalls, and then headed back to the ranch. There they had prepared an authentic Mexican lunch with shots of tequila and beer. This was a fantastic way to see true Mexico.

My fiancee and I spent the weekend at the Grand Velas and Velas Vallarta, which is where I proposed to her. With the help of Donald at the concierge desk, I accomplished this with a buried treasure hunt. The entire resort staff was so helpful in making it a night we will never forget. From the accommodations, activities, food and drink, to the hospitality of the staff, this was a trip we will never forget and will definitely return.
