I first went to Mendocino not as a movie buff, but rather as a good place to stay over after a leisurely drive up through the wine country that stretches from Healdsburg up to Mendocino via Route 128. The Sea Gull Inn was picked at random off, mostly due to price ($50-165 per night), but it was one of my luckiest finds ever. The Sea Gull Inn is one of Mendocino's first B&Bs and is in a house that dates to 1878. Not only is the innkeeper herself charming, but her inn is a delight.
