Hotel | "Hilton Heathrow Airport"

The Hilton at Heathrow airport is located at terminal 4 and is connected by the Heathrow Express train to the other three terminals. You have to walk along an under cover walkway to the hotel which takes about 10 minutes.

We found the check-in quick and efficient and we were soon in our room. The room was of a reasonable size and had a large bed (English king) and a desk with chair. High-speed internet access is available, but is chargeable at £15 per day. We also had a kettle with tea and coffee making and a mini bar. The bathroom had the usual things, toilet, vanity area with sink, bath, and shower. All are perfectly adequate for a night’s stay.

The hotel has a couple of restaurants, but they are very expensive; they also have room service, which is even more so. We decided to venture into the main terminal and found a pub, which served very nice food at reasonable prices – well reasonable by airport standards! We had our breakfast in a different terminal after checking in for our early morning flight to Canada.

Overall, if you want a hotel that is physically connected to the airport, then this is your only choice and it is a decent hotel. We paid £89 for the room for one night, which by English airport standards is quite good, but compared to our more luxurious Canadian hotels we later stayed in, very expensive.

Hotel | "Berkeley Park Suites & Apartments"

When looking for a Heathrow hotel, I found these suites on the web and thought the idea of staying in a suite (bedroom, living room, kitchen, etc.) would be better than a normal hotel room. I found their website, which was quite nicely set out, reassuring me, so I booked online for a studio suite at £99 per night, leaving all my details including credit card.

A few hours later I received an email giving a booking number, but stating that a staff member would contact me shortly to confirm the reservation. I thought this a little strange, but waited for the email or phone call. Four days later, I had heard nothing, so replied to the email just asking them to confirm that the room was booked.

I got a reply saying that they had no record of my booking and asking me to send my request, including credit card details, via email so that they could book it for me. I was then alarmed, as I had already given all these details - what had happened to my booking, and more importantly, my credit card details? I replied asking this question and got a reply from another person in very broken pidgin English saying that they were sorry my details were lost, but if I gave my details again, they would re-book for me. I replied asking them not to bother as if they couldn't even handle the reservation, then I had no confidence in actually staying there. I said, that if ever they found my booking, to cancel, as I had no intention of staying there.

I then got another reply (broken English) saying...wait for it...they were sorry I had decided not to stay, but if I sent them my details, they would book everything for me...I gave up at this point and will book an alternative hotel near Heathrow!

Be warned!

Berkeley Court Hotel
22 UPPER BERKELEY STREET London, England

I booked this hotel on the web and found the check in to be efficient and friendly. Our room (1724) was about as far away from reception as you could get without leaving the hotel, but was quite quiet.

The room was modern in design with light-coloured wood furniture, including a large desk, bedside cabinets, wardrobes, etc. We had a double bed, which came with two rather flat pillows. My husband likes a couple of pillows, so I phoned down to housekeeping to ask for a couple of extra ones; these were delivered within 10 minutes – very good. You get a dial-up internet connection in the room, which has a phone, TV with cable, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, and small safe. The bathroom was small but clean with a bath, toilet, and basin, and there was a good power shower over the bath.

We decided to go along to the restaurant for our evening meal and found that they have a happy hour between 6 and 7pm, which saved us a few pounds. The restaurant is a buffet, so you can choose any starter, main course, and dessert that you want for £12.95 each person. Main courses included various meats such as turkey, beef, pork, vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, curries, pasta, Chinese, and other such delights. Desserts included fruit, cakes, gateaux, cheese, and biscuits, etc. All in all, the food was very nice and the choices good. Drinks are at an extra cost.

We found our night’s stay very comfortable and the hotel and staff pleasant and efficient. Check out was quick and easy, despite it being 6am. There is a shuttle bus that stops outside the hotel to take you to and from the airport at a cost of £3 per person each way. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Park Inn Heathrow

As we were landing quite late on Saturday night at Heathrow, we decided to stay overnight near the airport. We booked a night on the web and paid £75 for an executive double room.

The room was located on the ground floor and was a reasonably sized room by London standards, but not perhaps by U.S. standards. We had a comfy bed, table, chairs, desk with Internet access, TV, wardrobe, tea/coffee-making facilities, etc. There was a mini bar, but we didn’t use it. The bathroom was clean and full of goodies such as the usual toiletries, shoe cleaner, shaver set, nail care set, toothbrush set, etc.

After our flight, we were quite hungry, so we went down to the restaurant bar. They have a nice, simple menu, and we had a very nice meal of chicken burgers and chips with drinks.

Obviously, as this is an airport hotel, most people only stay one night, and this hotel was perfectly adequate for this.
