Disney World Getaway

A May 1998 trip to Kissimmee by CarolMay

Our daughter was a designer for Walt Disney Imagineering and worked on lighting designs for Animal Kingdom. We spent a week seeing all aspects of the park. Our accommodations were super.

We spent two days visiting Animal Kingdom. Our daughter designed lighting mainly for Safari Village, particularly Pizzafari and the windsocks in an outdoor eating area.

Our favorite thing each day was to take the Kilamanjaro Safari in the morning, at noon, and just before the last trip in the afternoon. We could see different animals at various times of the day. Even the lion was out one day.

Quick Tips:

Wear walking shoes (not sandals) and take along snacks and water. Go early and stay late. Oh yes, being plenty of money for souvenirs.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a car to get to Disney World; then you just have to walk to everything or you will miss things.

Best Things Nearby:
Disney World.

Best Things About the Resort:
The accommodations were very spacious and nice.

Resort Experience:
There was plenty of room to spread out our purchases each night after coming home late from Disney World. Each bedroom had access to its own bathroom. Te kitchen was well supplied, although we didn't use it often.

Breakfast was very good and adequate. The fun part was meeting and talking with Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Mickey Mouse. We had our pictures taken with each one--even though we were all adults, we're still children at heart.

Attraction | "Animal Kingdom"

Animal Kingdom is truly magical from the moment you step into Entrance Plaza until you leave.

All the plants are mature, exotic, very lush; beautifully done. You encounter nature everywhere, as many birds and smaller animals are in their natural habitats. The gorillas are entertaining to watch and are safely behind a natural-looking enclosure. For the larger animals, you are in a safe safari vehicle.

We spent two days there, but you could easily spend more time in seeing things more than once or twice.

You should see everything while you're there -- it took us six days. We spent two days at Animal Kingdom and one day at each of the other destinations. This was our first trip, so we tried to see everything we could each day from opening to closing. The fireworks over the water at Epcot were very impressive.
