Eau Claire, WI - Not Just a College Town

A travel journal to Eau Claire by T-bug

Quote: Eau Claire, a city of only 50,000 people (10,000 which are students), thrives due to its university life, diverse restaurants, nightlife, arts, and outdoor activities. It is located in western Wisconsin, approximately an hour and a half east of the Twin Cities of Minnesota. Yet, it is a Wisconsin city that is often overlooked! I lived in Eau Claire for four and a half years as a college student. Therefore, I had an ample amount of time to explore the wonders of this city... I miss it a lot and go back often! THIS JOURNAL IS STILL IN PROGRESS

Eau Claire, WI - Not Just a College Town

Overview

Quote:
While in Eau Claire, you can't skimp out on the dining, nightlife, or outdoor activities. There is much to choose from and for a variety of tastes!

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

There are lots of ways to get around. Driving is by far the most ideal, especially if you plan to see a variety of areas.

However, if you go at a time of year when it isn't too cold, a lovely walk along the Chippewa River is also a nice option. When going out, if you stick to Water Street, walking is the best option.

This sub shop claims to offer 'gourmet subs with fresh-baked French bread smothered with over one-half pound of meats, cheese and veggies.'

Popular among college students for lunch or an after-bar snack, I would recommend Erb's and Gerb's as a great take-out joint. They also deliver and are open 7 days a week.

Mona Lisa's

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
Mona Lisa's is known for contemporary Italian meals. The menu includes varieties of pasta, seafood, pizza, and appetizers and changes weekly.

They have a great selection of beer, wine, and spirits. Visitors can enjoy a casual, smoke free atmosphere with wine bar, fireplace, and outdoor seating in the spring and summer.

I would have to say that Mona Lisa's is my favorite restaurant in all of Eau Claire, if not of all the restaurants to which I have ever been. The combination of its atmosphere and quality food make it a more than a notch above the rest. You MUST NOT pass up a chance to eat here!

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, opens 4pm.

If you choose the 'buffet', you pick the vegetables, the meat (if desired), and the sauces and the chef stir-fries everything in front of you at the buffet. Great food and excellent prices.

The chefs are truly fascinating to watch. Most meals include a salad with a great citrus dressing. Menu includes seafood, chicken, steak, and vegetables. Try the plum wine!
