Barrie, a Pleasant Surprise!

Overview

Quote:
We went to Barrie expecting a small town, but were blown away by everything. It was a lot different than the last time we were there. It is a clean, friendly city with anything and everything you can imagine. We did not even go to Toronto this trip as we spent all our time visiting Barrie. There is a horse race track there as well that we really wanted to go to, but we never had the chance. Next time maybe. I give Barrie two thumbs up! Also, the gas prices were a lot cheaper than in the surrounding areasQuick Tips: Go to the Georgian Mall if you need to shop -- there are several malls, but this one seems to be the biggest and best. We were very pleased with our stay at the Lodge at Horseshoe. We had a two-bedroom unit with a full kitchen and two full baths. The unit was large and airy. We loved the screened-in balcony overlooking the golf and swimming pool. We also were impressed with the oversized tubs and ceiling heating lights. Our kitchen had everything we possibly needed, and the washer and dryer were a blessing!

In the basement, we had a games room, hot tub, and gym. Just a short walk across the parking lot brought you to the main lodge with the indoor pool, spa, and restaurants. The staff was pleasant and there were tons of on-site activities for everyone.

We deceided to try Silks as we were sick of McDonald's. I had poached salmon with dill sauce. The staff was very efficient and the food was fabulous. It was quite pricey, as the main courses ranged from about $24-39. It was a nice treat and you can look outside as you eat.

Go West Restaurant

Restaurant

Quote:
This was a very laid-back restaurant that was of better liking to the kids as it was a hamburger and ribs type place. We enjoyed hamburgers and fries, but they were better than the average. It’s still a little pricey, but not too hard on the pocketbook. It was around $8 for a hamburger platter, but like I say, it was worth it.

Georgian Mall

Attraction

Quote:
This mall is quite large and you can pretty much find anything you are looking for. The food court has a great selection and the variety is great within the mall to find that hard to locate and unique gift. There were several nice coffee shops -- Timothy’s was my favorite. We wandered for a few hours and spent too much money.

This was a pleasant beach that has a huge playground attached to it. There are picnic tables and plenty of things for the little ones as well as older children. There are interesting science displays and bathrooms on site. The beach is very clean and quite large.
