The City of Fountain's is one of my favorite places to visit. This small town has a big town feel about it or is it the other way around :-)

The City of Fountains
The place to begin a tour is at the colorful City Market area of the restored downtown riverfront district. Next head to the Country Club Plaza to get some great shopping, dining and nightlife under your KC belt. The CC Plaza was developed in the 1920s as America's first shopping center with fountains and Moorish architecture. A great place to do some walking while you window shop the fabulous stores. Next head to the historic Westport district for great live music and a great nightlife experience. Be sure to visit the the American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Please don't leave with out getting KC's famous barbecue at least twice!

Restaurant | "Gates Bar-B-Q"

You simply haven’t lived until you eat BBQ at Gates. Their extra hot sauce holds the title 'Best Barbecue Sauce on the Planet, 1991.' Eating at Gates is a KC experience everyone should have. It’s one of the first places I visit when I come to town.

No visit to KC is complete without dinner at Plaza III. I love the atmosphere, decor, music and food. This Kansas City steakhouse has been a Plaza mainstay since 1963. Here’s a place to find the best in KC beef and jazz. As with most steakhouses, everything is served a la carte. Leave room for dessert, so you can sample the Key Lime pie. The restaurant owns its own bakery which ensures the bread and desserts are fresh. Their 700 bottle wine list has been awarded a Wine Spectator award. Look for local jazz musicians on the stage in the latter part of the week. 4749 Pennsylvania Ave.

Fiesta CruisesBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

A 40-minute narrated boat cruise along the winding waterway, waterfalls and fountains of the Country Club Plaza. This is a wonderful thing to do in the winter but bundle up.

Hilton Isle of Capri Casino - Flamingo HiltonBest of IgoUgo

Attraction | "Flamingo Hilton Casino"

For safety reasons, the riverboats no longer cruise the Missouri River. Under state law, however, boarding times remain restricted to 'cruise' schedules. Once a gambler leaves a boat, he or she may not re-enter during that two-hour gaming session. This was a bit confusing but we finally figured it out. There is also a limit that can be spent on each session by the gambler. I believe it's $500.

Attraction

This is a wonderful place to shop, window shop or just take in the sights. One of my favorite things to do is to take a carriage ride through the Plaza. One of my favorite times to take the carriage ride is around November and December, when the holiday lights add a special twinkle to the plaza.

Twenty-four rooms of antique toys, dolls, trains, doll houses and scale miniatures. The collections range in size from paintings on the head of a pin to a 9-1/2-feet-tall doll house. A great place to enjoy a quiet afternoon.

WestportBest of IgoUgo

Story/Tip

Westport is in the heart of Kansas City. Westport has a special sound, smell & atmosphere which is truly its own. The small village which lies just north of the Plaza, is a unique place, because its streets are filled with history and mystery.

More than 150 years ago, thousands of people came to Westport ready to start a new life in a growing city. As more and more settlers came into Westport looking to make a life, the town kept growing, finally to the point that there was nowhere to grow. The new city created was Kansas City.

Today, Westport is the popular destination for young people looking for a good time. The many nightclubs and bars draw them to the area. The streets are filled with the sounds of a dance music. The restaurant smells filter through the city streets. This is the place to be after dark!
