Holly Bluff Marina Houseboat Escape

An April 2004 trip to Deland by Maureen Myers

Our houseboat was great and had plenty of room for six people. There was lots of wildlife on the St. John River. There were many places to stop and have a meal. There were lots of alligators too and lots of places to dock (but you have to be careful of water depth, so the boat should have a depth-finder).

Watching the alligators bask in sun and crossing the river. Fish jumping about five feet out of water. Docking at various restaurants to eat.

Quick Tips:

Be sure to bring soap with you!!! I forgot mine. Plan your days so you have time to get back to marina if you don't want to stay out overnight on the river. You have to be back at marina by 4:45pm because they have to put your boat in slip and take it out for you.

Best Way To Get Around:

There is an Amtrak station approximately one mile away. You will need to rent a car if you want to travel anywhere and want groceries.

We didn't get to do it because over the weekend they had a rabid otter that bit eight people, so the spring was closed down.
