Quote: Our holiday in Rajasthan was simply amazing -- the memories still make us tingle. It's such a different country!!! There are 600-year-old forts, 2000-year-old temples, rugged desert stretches, and peacocks and camels roaming the streets. Bedecked and beautiful women with their faces partially covered added a rustic beauty to the holiday.

We stayed at Fort Chanwa Luni, about 34 km from Jodhpur, in a village called Luni. It is a 110-year-old fort palace-turned-resort once owned by the dewan of the then maharaja. It is beautifully restored with an authentic ambience. Folk musicians play typical rajasthani music and birds chirp through the day. The rooms are a delightful fusion of old world charm and modern amenities. A magical atmosphere. We made Luni our base and travelled to Jaisalmer, Pokhran, Osiyan, Ajmer, and Pushkar. Our experiences were richly varied: the starkness of desert sand dunes in Jaisalmer, grandeur of the 600-year-old forts of Jaisalmer, Pokhran, and the most breathtaking, Meherangarh Fort of Jodhpur, the beauty ...Read More

Restaurant

Food may be the only problem for Indian travelers, as it tends to be a little bland and quite expensive. Roadside dhabbas that dot the area provide an interesting option and the nearest ones are 9km from the resort. Otherwise, the only good food options are in Jodhpur, so plenty of dining planning has to be done if you wish to have a hassle-free stay.

Attraction

In and around Luni itself, you will find quaint little shops with terracotta artifacts being created by local potters and Dhurries being woven in several homes. Jodhpur has several shops selling exquisite curios, which are typical handcrafted items in materials (metal, wood, etc.) unique to Rajasthan.

Interesting tour musts:

Jaisalmer: A stay in a tent at a desert camp and a camel safari to the dunes.
A visit to Mandore gardens near Jodhpur. Mandore was the ancient capital of Marwar (now Jodhpur) and is said to be the birthplace of Mandodari, the wife of Ravana, the demon king of Sri Lanka in the Ramayana.
In Meherangarh Fort, remember to hire the audiocassette description so you can see, hear, and experience the place at your own pace without a guide.
