But to get away from the bright lights and noise of the casinos, take a walk around Virginia Lake, about two miles south of downtown, or bike along the Truckee River bike path, which will take you out beyond Sparks NV and past several small riverside parks along the way. Idyllwild Park is also an idyllic getaway by the river west of downtown. If you enjoy high desert scenery, a drive to Pyramid Lake may be for you. Our room was large and nicely decorated, with a great view of Mt. Rose's snow-covered summit. But it was at the end of the hall, a long walk from the elevator after a night in the casino. The elevators do take you very close to the hotel's cluster of restaurants and the casino, though.
