We were in DC for four days and Williamsburg for seven, but that was not enough time!

Powhatan Plantation

Best Things Nearby:
Jamestown, Williamsburg, and the coast.

Best Things About the Resort:
Private accommodations, great for families, and the pools.

Resort Experience:
Our condo was large enough for two adults and three kids. We were able to access any activities easily, despite the weather! The facility needs updating, but the furniture was sturdy, plenty of linens and kitchen equipment, and perfectly comfortable.

Colonial Williamsburg

This is a wonderful activity for families. The kids enjoyed watching the different tradesmen and women "ply the wares," so to speak, and loved the costumes. We heard “Thomas Jefferson" speak, saw two plays, enjoyed a carriage ride, and had plenty of time to wander. Lots of walking!

Plan well--we didn't realize that we could have made dinner reservations well ahead of time!

Jamestown, and Jamestown Settlement

The original Jamestown site is an archeologist’s dream! Everything is within an easy walk to explore and discuss. Too bad the visitor’s center was so damaged from Hurricane Isabel last year. The settlement is a re-creation, re-enactment facility -- the kids loved it! They especially enjoyed the Powhatan village area, where they got to "tan" animal hides and grind maize!

Day by Day

Experience

Where to start! We stayed in DC first and we were able to get to most of the monuments, memorials, two Smithsonian museums, the Capitol building, the Kennedy Center, and the Library of Congress (beautiful, not to be missed!). Arlington was stunning. We drove down to Williamsburg on Easter Sunday in the pouring rain, but oh well! With Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg, we were very busy. Ten days was simply not enough time.
