A quick airplane flight from the hustle and bustle of Singapore lies Tioman Island. Tiomon is part of Malaysia and it is a small island, 23 miles long and 7 miles wide. It is the biggest of 64 islands that make up its island chain. It is just off the east coast of the Malaysian peninsula.
The island caters to scuba and snorkel divers, it is a paradise. The water is clean and the wildlife is abundant. Our hotel had a small island that you could see (see picture), and you could snorkel out to it and circle the island and come back in a few hours.
The trip from the airport to the hotel was by a van -- it was close by and not bad at all. We stayed for a long weekend at the Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort, which came as part of a package that we arranged in Singapore for a few hundred dollars, which included a flight over on a puddle jumper. If you are afraid of flying, you do not want to look at the landing strip; it ends at the point were a mountain has been chiseled away, so you land facing a large wall of mountain.
