Try the local travel agents in Singapore -- they have good specails that include everything!

Best Way To Get Around:

To get there by plane from Singapore is quick and easy. Remember your passport because it is a different country! To get aroung locally, try walking, biking, and boating!

The hotel has two nice restaurants -- one had a buffet at night and the other had a buffet for breakfast. The food was ok, not quite up to what you would expect in the Caribbean, but not bad. I passed on the buffet and ate light; I would recommend that.

Not far away from the hotel is a shop that rented bicycles, scuba equipment, and boats for hire for the day. The only option for the boat and captain was whether you wanted a cooler and ice or not; we went for the "whole boat" and ordered the cooler too. I think the boat was $200 for the day.

The captain was great -- he took us to several nice dive spots, and we did some scuba and some snorkeling. We saw the usual fish, but also sea turtles, which I had never seen, and lots of rays. The areas were not crowded at all. We took some good pictures, including one of me chasing a turtle!

Attraction

This is a nice ride in the tropical rain forest of Tioman, just watch out for the wildlife. It is a lot of fun! There are lizards, snakes, and the monkeys love to throw things at you, but even with that, it is a lot of fun.

Story/Tip

A quick airplane flight from the hustle and bustle of Singapore lies Tioman Island. Tiomon is part of Malaysia and it is a small island, 23 miles long and 7 miles wide. It is the biggest of 64 islands that make up its island chain. It is just off the east coast of the Malaysian peninsula.

The island caters to scuba and snorkel divers, it is a paradise. The water is clean and the wildlife is abundant. Our hotel had a small island that you could see (see picture), and you could snorkel out to it and circle the island and come back in a few hours.

The trip from the airport to the hotel was by a van -- it was close by and not bad at all. We stayed for a long weekend at the Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort, which came as part of a package that we arranged in Singapore for a few hundred dollars, which included a flight over on a puddle jumper. If you are afraid of flying, you do not want to look at the landing strip; it ends at the point were a mountain has been chiseled away, so you land facing a large wall of mountain.
