El Teide is the largest volcano in Europe and truly amazing. Within an hour’s drive, you travel straight up from sea level to 12,000 feet above sea level. At about 7,000 feet, you start to see huge pine trees, which only grow between 6000 and 8,000 feet. There is great vegetation there that you will not see anywhere else in Spain. The highest village is Villa Flor, where you can stop at and taste the local tapas and also see street markets, where men with donkeys and carts sell local produce very cheap.
